So this here is the to-do list, the resource list, the stuff-I've-made list... Generally that big sticky post you see at the top of all the Sims blogs. It also has a wishlist.

If you haven't clicked any cuts yet and you're looking for that massive post full of SimPE tricks (old stuff I have not kept updated has been removed as of February 2022):

Simple SimPE Tricks: How to make your Body Shop content do what you want, with a few Buy/Build Mode tricks, too. Recent additions: how to Time Bin, how I made my custom modular stairs show up properly without Scriptorium, and how to actually up the Environment score on deco objects.

And here's something I feel kind of silly about posting at all:

Behold the Tip Jar!

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. I don't do pay content and I can't seem to get requests done in a timely fashion, so donors get a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery (you help feed my cats, you get to see lots and lots of pictures of my cats) and my to-do list Google doc, in case there's anything on there that makes a donor go 'oooh, when are you working on that one?'

The tricky part about wanting to have exotic destinations like the Far East in a period game is that, even with Bon Voyage giving me Vacation Destinations, I still have to find enough ding-dang stuff to dress, build, furnish, and landscape those destinations. If you ever wonder why I'm so excited about Castaway Stories extractions and expansions, it's because I can just use it. No desperately researching if a piece of custom content is even vaguely appropriate using terms that are tricky to google for-- provided the creator put anything useful in their catalog description or tooltips.

8kSims Hinoki-Buro bath comes in 20 Pooklet Project Mayhem naturals run over a blend of Piggi's Wood 03 and the original textures. Importantly, this is a no-EP bathtub, meaning you can't wash your dog in it. Read more! )

Uh, warning for cannibalism? (Nothing graphic shown.)

Look, sometimes you need something in your game that's just a little... wrong. Like. Sims have Good and Evil traits now, and sometimes there's a story option that you just... want to keep in your back pocket. For reasons. Just in case. You might need it someday.

... And you might need it to be invisible, so it's not so out-of-period with the rest of your neighborhood.

Yup.

Pescado's "Frying Fish Systems" OMGWTFBBQ Babby Roaster comes in one invisible recolor, one invisible-except-the-grill recolor, and one default-replacement mesh option, because I couldn't make the hood invisible using a recolor. (The coals are also never invisible.)

And it does exactly what it implies it does: you can direct your Sims to the Babby Roaster to strip, grill, serve, and eat any unwanted babies. Go full Snowpiercer. Make that modest proposal. Have yourself a Donner Party.

I've never even actually used this thing, I just... keep it in my game.

Anyway

The default replacement option swaps the hood mesh out for Hysterical Paroxysm's placeholder object, saving about a thousand polys on the Babby Roaster. It's named to load after the original if you put them in the same folder, but really, it's probably best to choose only one. You may as well keep reading. )

The Free Time Exquisite Food Judging Table comes in 85 Medievalish tablecloth colors-- Pooklet's Project Mayhem Naturals, Aelia's Autumn, CuriousB's Any Color You Like, and to round out the linen look, Aelia's Eco Ecru, Beige, and Vanilla, all over Magpie's linen, with a tonal quatrefoil embroidery pattern and Piggi Wood 03 on the signage.

I had a LOT of trouble with this one! First I struggled to shade it, then it turned out I had an outdated version of CEP installed and I thought this table was just kinda broken. But! I did eventually get it to work! Come see! )

The Sim-Ages Antique Dining set was texture-referenced-- small chair to tall chair-- by the inimitable Darkmoon, and I will admit right here in the header that it is nowhere near the most historically-accurate piece in all of Buy Mode Blitz... but that is a fourteen-seat dining table right there. The only other way to do that is with modular tables. How could I resist?

Furnish the greatest of great halls with 20 Pooklet Project Mayhem Naturals applied to wood subsets, in a blend of the original textures and Piggi's Wood 03 (as this was before I started using my Piggy 03/SDA Kitchen blend), and the table runners and chair cushions come in my usual deluxe crayon box of 82 Pooklet Natural, Aelia Autumn, and CuriousB Any Color You like shades over a simple lozenge-pattern brocade suitable for MANY eras-- plus the original fabric color, too, as it turned out so nice. The table even comes with a bonus invisible recolor for the runner, because that seemed like a good idea. See more! )

A combo post, because it took me so darned long remember that, for Reasons I Guess, the 'summon spectral cat' spell does not show in the spellbook, it's just... on the mage. "Oh," I says, "he must not have it yet. Oh well. Keep studying!" So once I finally got the danged cat, I was not waiting longer than necessary to line up the title card shot.

Both the Around The Sims Cat Cafe cat bed and Thunderwitch's Yarn Ball cat toy come in my usual deluxe crayon box of 82 Pooklet Project Mayhem naturals, Aelia Autumn, and CuriousB Any Color You Like actions, with the bed being done in a shaded Magpie Linen and the ball of yarn over a new wool-yarn texture. That I did not save in any useful-for-crediting way. Well done me. Read on! )

Last of the Sunni Skyrim conversions! This is the Blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel, available in 20 Pooklet Project Mayhem naturals over a blend of the original textures (they had nice shading) over Piggi Wood 03 (as the original textures needed more smooth grain).

So technically the sharpening wheel is sort of animated? Sims sit just like Plant is sitting in the title card, they breathe heavily, and they shift a little. Body skill goes up, Tinkering enthusiasm goes up-- a rare bird in the land!-- Sims get more muscular, and body temperature goes up... but they just sit there while all that happens. The wheel doesn't spin and the Sims don't lean forward or anything.

On the one hand, a little disconcerting if you're watching them, on the other... it's a lot quieter than most exercise equipment? Read on! )

Last one for the night, bringing the Buy Mode Blitz tag up to a nice round 50! (But it's the last one for the night, I do still have a few more things that need uploading. I need a toddler for a couple of things-- though that's clothing-- and a kid for a couple more Buy Mode Blitz items, and a cat, and to build a temporary set, and a honeymoon if I want a title card in use. But I am getting toward the end of things.)

Kativip's Legend Series City (I think it's still Legend Series by the time LS got to City) Table and Bench were texture-referenced by the inimitable Darkmoon, and "retextured" in a combination of Piggi's Wood 03, Kativip's original extracted textures from whatever game she extracted these from, and judicious use of the Motion Blur filter. Because the original textures have beautiful carving, but were otherwise... crispy. Read on! )

This, uh, this is a real short one, guys. (Only one more post coming tonight, and I dunno if anything tomorrow, I have real-world errands. Maybe. More this month, I seem to be trying to get everything posted that's in any condition to be posted.)

Kativip's LS City Wall Decor 01 is a swagged banner, and comes in 82 Pooklet Project Mayhem naturals, Aelia Autumn, and CuriousB ACYL colors over Magpie's linen. Texture size has been doubled-- from 64x128 to 128x256, so it's not THAT big a difference. Read more! )

Ninipupucea's "Ancient" canopy crib was graciously separated into two subsets by Darkmoon-- referencing the bedding to the Maxis crib bedding (find my recolors of that here) and letting the wood be separately recolorable. I used Piggi Wood 03 on it, as it was an early bit of Buy Mode Blitz recoloring and I hadn't yet hit on my Piggi 03/SDA Kitchen blend, so. I may do these again sometime! But I was always kind of considering that, as there's scope for decorative woodwork.

I'd've uploaded it sooner, but I really felt like the title card needed an actual baby. Read on! )

Nixed Sims's exercise mat comes in 82 Pooklet Project Mayhem natural, Aelia Autumn, and CuriousB Any Color You Like actions over a TS3 twill fabric. This is assuredly a low-poly item, clocking in at a whopping 16 polys over two tiles. Children, teens, young adults, adults, and elders can all use this simple little thing to gain fitness, Body skill, and Fitness enthusiasm.

This isn't exactly a period item-- different kinds of exercises were developed at different places in history, and of course for the Middle Ages, you got strong by doing the thing you needed to get strong for-- working, riding, training to fight-- not by doing sit-ups or leg lifts.

IF YOU DOWNLOADED BEFORE JANUARY 29, 2023, PLEASE RE-DOWNLOAD. I recolored these back in 2019 and missed Nix's April 2022 update fixing an error regarding pregnant Sims exercising in games without pregnant-sims-wear-anything mods. Read on. )

Rebecah's functional knitting requires FreeTime, increases Creativity skill, and adds Art enthusiasm-- and when your Sim is finished knitting, they can either sell their project for $100, or get $100 towards the purchase of a new outfit.

Not bad, really!

The yarn textures are Beck's own; I was pretty happy with them. The knitting needles are Piggi's Wood 18-- I didn't keep track of what colors I used with which yarn, but they're all one of the following Pooklet Naturals: Depth Charge, Incendiary, Explosive, Safety Fuse, Volatile, Fission, Grenade, or Comburent. And importantly, recolors only work on the yarnball object, not the accessory that manifests in your Sim's hands while knitting.

Is this historically accurate? )

Nightlife's Sit-N-Grin Photobooth (requires Nightlife and) has been given magitek recolors in-- well, the subsets aren't set up particularly fairly, really. And I did not do 20 woods for this one-- just two. ... One, really, but with two minor variations.

I have done two options for the same wood recolor for the 'repeats' subset (one in the original shiny, one in matte), and recolored the tech and the advertisements on the 'surface' subset to match. Then I applied my usual deluxe crayon box of 82 Pooklet Project Mayhem Naturals, Aelia Autumn, and CuriousB Any Color You Like actions to the curtain-- which is done in Magpie's linen-- and the padded seat of the interior stool, both of which are part of the 'surface' subset. Mog Hughson's Novel-Writing Manuscript allows Sims to write a novel longhand-- you know, the old-fashioned way, before typewriters and computers and crystal ball or 'pile of books' computers. Midgethetree's Practice Writing update allows Sims to build creativity by writing in Mog's manuscript without actually writing anything... salable? Cohesive?

But anyway!

When I started Buy Mode Blitz, there were exactly three trash compactors out there that were truly suitable for a Medieval game: This one, the SDA Castle Kitchen one, and Hriveresse's Greek Kitchen one. This was the first one I recolored, and one I talked to Fractured Moonlight about at some point-- because as I was bemoaning the lack of under-counter appliances (there was, at one time, one Medieval dishwasher), Frac decided to kick this mesh around and add a second subset to it for me.

So you have options!

Both variations on the theme of trash compactor here use the same GUID. There can be only one. If you use the Original mesh with the Frac Edit recolors, only recolors of the bin will show. If you use the Original recolors with the Frac Edit mesh, not only will only the bin show, but you will have eight identical iterations of the same two bin textures. It won't hurt anything, but last mesh loaded wins. Read more! )

Why are these Stone Soup Robes? Because these are-- deep breath now--

Simborg's two-group edit of JellyMeduza's MtF edit of Cynnix's FantasyRogue Poulaines edit of Oph3lia's morphed cross-less edit of Aligeth's Friar Tuck robe. With texture credits to Sherahbim (wool), Magpie (linen), Aligeth (a little of the cowl, still) and Iamliz13 (belt), as well as FantasyRoge (shoes) and my very own self (hose).

They come to you for CU (Cynnix), TF (Meduza), TM (Cynnix), YAEF (Meduza), and YAEM (Cynnix), fat morphs all around and I think pregmorphs for teen and up, in 82 Pooklet Project Mayhem, Aelia Autumn, and CuriousB Any Color You Like actions, texture-referenced (Skell-style, with the textures in their own packages) because I wouldn't do that to myself, much less you.

So what in the heck are these? Are they historically adequate? Why are they unisex?

Well.

COMBO BREAKER-- a brief break from Buy Mode Blitz for clothing, because I could get shots of the clothing but I noticed some things that I did not install properly so I couldn't get screenshots of them without restarting my game. Because that's how it goes sometimes.

And these have been sitting in my Projects Folder since 2016, not even started, which is terribly unfair because they were way easier than I expected.

So, my first stop for visual inspiration is always Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, especially the calendar section (showing not only the Duke de Berry and his companions, but commoners as well). January in particular is a gorgeous image for what I'm bringing you today, because it is full of richly-dressed noble men at a New Year's party. They got chains of state, they got chaperons and bag hats, they got some funky haircuts, they got kidney bags and bollock daggers, they got two servants in livery, they got dagged hoods and cowls, they got fur lining, they got damask and cloth-of-gold and embroidery, they got a greyhound in a collar, they got plaited rush mats on the floor, they got a wicker fire screen, they got a danged tourney happening in the background, and except on the two liveried servants?

Every visible foot is in soled hosen. Read more! )

I am not pretending that basketball is a Medieval sport. I went and researched basketball for this post (and I left myself notes, so I get to share that research with you), so I know darned well it is not a Medieval sport. I am, however, going to admit that there are very few ways to get a Medieval Sim who loves sports their Sports Enthusiasm, so... no one talk shit about HORSE, of course?

... Yeah the Mister Ed reference isn't really working, is it.

The Free Time H-O-R-S-E Of Course basketball hoop comes in one recolor per subset of pretending-to-be-historical colors. The floor comes with Maxis white free-throw lines with a clear background, to be "painted" over whatever flooring you choose, while the hoop (and backboard and pole) come in almost-plausible wooden recolors burgled from WFS's Big Barn Kitchen set, with the metal fixtures darkened to resemble iron instead of steel (or powder-coated enameled steel). There is also an OPTIONAL default replacement package for the net using WFS Fisherman... fishnet. Sadly a default is the only way I could get the net itself to recolor-- I tried! Read on! )

CTNutmegger's tablecloths (texture-referenced by hkaw, you're getting every mesh I found) come in the lead 1x2, 1x1 round, 1x1 square, 1x2 again but slightly lowered/remapped, and 1x3 versions. I have done them in 85 colors (Pooklet Project Mayhem natural, Aelia Autumn, and CuriousB Any Color You Like full sets, with a bonus of Aelia's Eco Ecru, Vanilla, and Beige to round out my usual eight linens) all on Magpie's linen texture. Yes, including things like Flash Powder, Mango, and Chocolate. Your Sims' wedding colors are their business, not mine. Or maybe you need to set up a trade show or something where every table has to have a flame-retardant tablecloth and vendors do like to stand out by using different colors (my tablecloths for miniature shows are black).

There are two versions, one with a simple hem that isn't denoted in any way, and FANCY, which has a strip of darker-self-embroidery. My original goal was to get that fancy version a lot fancier, but my notes say that would've taken making the textures, like, four times larger, and nobody wants that when I've gone and made 170 of the things. Atavera's Contrabass (with Argon instrument hack fix!) is one of the very first things I recolored for Buy Mode Blitz... and I did not leave myself a helpful file of notes for it. So this is gonna be a very seat-of-the-pants entry!

So, first things first, as with most things I recolor in wood, Atavera's Contrabass comes in 20 Pooklet Project Mayhem naturals... over I think Piggi Wood 03. Like, I think this was the object that I discovered Piggi Wood 03 was the nicest I had for smooth grain, but it was definitely before I stared mixing the SDA Kitchen wood in there.

But I didn't leave myself any notes, so I'm only pretty sure. It's definitely a Piggi wood, at least? Read on! )
