HAIR DUMP VI: RETURN OF HAIR DUMP
Oct. 2nd, 2010 07:11 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)

I think I've actually missed doing these! Sorta. And hey, lookit, I finally made a title card for these things!
Since there are a zillion downloads inside the cut, the boilerplate goes outside the cut, so...
NO PAYSITES. Mesh creators' policies may vary, but Pooklet says no and these are her actions.
PRAISE BE UNTO: Nouk and HP, whose meshes are well-represented here today, as well as Peggy, Aligeth, and Death over on XM Sims, likewise for meshes, Aquilegia, for age and gender conversions, Amaryll for a mesh fix, Alfred Askew, for the awesomest hand-painted curls ever, Ja, whose curved textures I constantly steal, SAU MYOS, for the curliest photorealistic curls ever, Lyn for making sure I had a working copy of Photoshop, Pooklet for making sure Project Mayhem worked with my copy of Photoshop, and my couple of donors for making sure I could do hair dumps at all.
HEY LISTEN! Meshes are included except where noted; HP requires you to trot yourself over to MTS to grab her meshes, and since they're free, I comply. Swatches are included in the zip files, everything is compressorized. These are all pretty low-poly today, being largely HP and Nouk, although being largely HP and Nouk, some meshes have WAY more groups than is reasonable. Elders go gray, but you also get Time Bomb in the custom bin, just in case Primer isn't platinum enough for you. All female hairs are maternity-wear enabled from teen and up, and all male hairs from YA and up, to stop the weird hair disappearing act that happens if you don't have a Pregnant Sims Wear Any Outfit hack (but why wouldn't you?).
ANNOYING THINGS I DO: My filenames are stupidly long, so please feel free to shorten them. Better you edit them to suit your needs than I hand you thirty different files that are all named VOLATILE and piss everyone off, right? Also, each hair has an elder gray attached instead of only being stuck to black or blond (because if you want to only keep four colors or something, this way you can swap out textures and still have all the grays. Or choose which color you want your gray carried on. Whatever). Feel free to re-bin things to suit yourself, or do the neons, or whatever.
There are thirty large pics behind the cut, cats and kittens. Dial-up users beware.
If you spot any broken links or other idiocy, please let me know!
Wanna help me feed my cats?
In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.

Roundheels REDUX
Peggy August 07/Pooklet textures/Pooklet's actions
Toddler-Elder
Let's start off with a fixed hair, shall we? I've uploaded this one before, but apparently I missed a hair tie that was causing funky alpha issues for some players... because the alpha for every age BUT Adult had it. Twas brought to my attention, and now I've fixed it, because what a weird thing to do-- as a bonus, it pretty much halved the size of the download! So if you have my original Roundheels, please delete it and use this one instead.

More Than He's Worth REDUX
Hysterical Paroxysm's Gaius age-converted by Aquilegia/HP's textures/Pooklet's actions
Child-Elder
Oh man you guys. Okay first of all, this is a large-scale download-- the textures are huge, and there are eight different textures per binned recolor, so. Yeah. Second, yes, I have done HP's Gaius before, but Aquilegia, the saint that she is, offered to age-convert it for children and teens if offered an appropriate bribe. She wanted Nouk hairs and Alfred textures, so here we are! 31mb download, don't say I didn't warn you.

Not only age-converted but gender converted! No, really, that's a woman up there. Today, for any short female hair that's still on the sorta-longish side, I decided to use my androgynous knight as a model. Also a 31mb download.

XM Death 02 Qingshe Hair fixed by Amaryll/Pooklet textures/Pooklet's actions
Young Adult-Elder
This is seriously one of my favorite hairs for wicked witches, fairies, and other weirdos. However, when I went to Pooklet it, it had some really weird shadows inside the loops that were due to the mesh being... um, weird. Originally, it only came in black, but those shadows spoiled anything lighter than Brisance. I don't know jack about meshes, but Amaryll went and fixed this one for me, praise be unto Amaryll! If you have this mesh elsewhere in your downloads folder, you should let Amaryll's fixed version overwrite it. Because... it's fixed.

I also love Kayleigh for letting me know the original file name of my zip was too long... for Mediafire. See, in my game, long hair is considered a minor vanity... but more importantly, maintaining long hair is a time-sink, so the people who get out there and do good works are required to cut it-- no longer than a finger's length. (I totally misspelled penitent, but it's too late to fix it now.)

However, a novice, or even just someone seeking the Church's shelter, isn't required to cut their hair, especially if they're a woman or young girl. Date: 2010-10-03 04:32 am (UTC)Totally feelin' you on the curls issue. I've held off on Pookleting the Peggy mesh for my self-sim's hair, one of the hairs I should want the most, because I need to re-paint the curls at the bottom for maximum shininess, and I haven't felt like doing any digital painting lately. Bleh.
I never really liked the "lady" hair either. It's one of those ones I put in game, and feel it looks nice enough, but then I never want to put it on any of my sims.

I've also been thinking about what you wrote in the other worlds thread at GOS a while back, about having to take into account whether a statue comes in different sizes for choosing your 'hood's religious symbols. And I just wanted to say that if you have any that you want to use that don't come in the right size, I'd be happy to resize them for you.

Date: 2010-10-03 12:45 pm (UTC)Probably heave a sigh of relief? That's what I'll do, secure in the knowledge that if I need any more hairs, I'll need them one at a time, and thus can do proper posts for them instead of just DUMP. ... And yet it's kinda fun to plop 'em all up there.
... I could make a list, I think. In fact I'm sure I could. It would not be difficult. Actually, this is another one of those situations where it'd be easy for me to offer up an in-game sainthood in exchange for things I can't do myself but desperately need/want (patron saint of sculptors and stonecutters?).

Did you ever consider Pooklet'ing some of those meshes, or is this even possible? I would definitely snatch those if ever you so created them! ;) (I prefer the shorter ones!)
And I TOTALLY AGREE! the"Sweet Polly Oliver" hair DEFINITELY needs to be gender converted!!!!

Off course: Did you or could you "medievalize" (Ha!Ha!) the food prep stuffs? I was watching my sims prepare their food the other day and there was bread from a plastic bag, and a jar of pickles, mayo, mustard...just to name a couple! Anyway, I know you have fixed a lot of other items to customize our medieval 'hoods, and for that I am really thankful for!!! I think I have installed all your medieval-ish uploads, but I don't remember seeing anything to fix this.
Anywho!!! Thank you once again!

Date: 2010-10-07 06:27 pm (UTC)Some of the Maxis hairs are on my list, although I tend toward all-age conversions of them... and only the ones that look reasonably Medieval, hairs that don't look like they require a dedicated styling regimen to be physically possible (or at least that don't seem to require anything that wouldn't be available to your average Medieval nobleman). I've got a LOT of the Maxis hairs hidden because they don't suit my game-- I've got to have some kind of limit to what I'll do, or I'll never finish with hairs! *laughs*
Aquilegia is planning on it, and Aquilegia is made of awesome.
I made an attempt at de-modernizing the cereal, at least, but food is pretty low on my list, to be honest. Most of the things that work in period-- pork chops, salmon, chili, the fish dishes you get with Seasons-- aren't too bad in terms of 'hello, this item came from the grocery store!' and the rest... well, cold cereal isn't period, but semolina is. I use a lot of custom food, I really do-- The Dark Project even has bread. Besides, texture defaults would only do so much for things that use cardboard boxes or plastic bags of rectangular loaves of bread, and I still stink at mesh defaulting.

You make the hair recoloring look so easy with your massive collections, but now I have even more appreciation for your efforts. I did the request - but I think I'll leave the major hair projects in your capable hands!
no subject
Date: 2010-10-09 11:23 pm (UTC)Ahh, but Neptune Suzy's old old hairs are based on Maxis meshes with Maxis mapping, and I'm trying hard to stick to things that are EASY to retexture-- Maxis hair mapping can be nuts, and I'm not looking forward to my section of Melodie9's age conversions. (Especially that Halo hair, which Neptune Suzy also made longer for one of her meshes.) If you're going to leave the textures as they are, Pookletting a hair is as easy as pushing play a whole mess of times, but if you want to change the texture itself... well, that's what gets tricky. Most newer meshes tend to use straight hair textures that the mesh curves, which is a LOT easier. So much easier. All you have to do is make sure the highlights and shadows look good.

Date: 2010-10-30 04:50 pm (UTC)Anyway, I'm beyond unworried about how long anything takes-- my own Real Life is full of Stuff right now, and I've got several Sim projects simmering away, plus I'm trying to leave room/time for Secret Santa when it rolls around... Things take as long as they take. While I know I won't start playing my real 'hood until I finish my default replacements AND my hairs, my plan is for each statue to represent a different saint, so people can worship at home, set medium-large statues around the home or garden as protective figures, or wow the heck out of the flock in the church. Despite the face that all I have so far is that concept, already I've got St Aquilegia (a patron of writers and children in the care of the Church-- writers cos she asked and Church-raised kids cos she did a much-longed-for child ninja mesh for me and that's what my egalitarian church folk wear), St Cynnix (a patron of all those expecting children, regardless of age or gender-- for she showers the world in pregmorphs added to AF, TF, AM, and occasional EF or EM Medieval meshes. She may end up the patron of cobblers, too), and if you like, St Eva, who so far seems like a patron of sculptors and stonemasons and protector of wild animals.
Also, if there's anything on my to-do or hair list you'd want me to hurry up and finish as a thank-you for this, let me know.
