HAIR DUMP VII: Revenge of Hair Dump, part One of Three

I don't even remember how many hairs I have done. I hit twenty-three names and swatches and said to myself "That's a good number to post as-is."

Downloads are inside the cut, so the boilerplate goes outside the cut. The boilerplate is...

NO PAYSITES. Mesh creators' policies may vary, but Pooklet says no and these are her actions.

PRAISE BE UNTO: Nouk, for meshes and shiny new wavy textures that I shall be heartily abusing, Melodie9, for age and gender conversions of Maxis meshes, Ja, for textures I periodically pilfer, Newsea, Cevic, Callum, M&T Sims Cakestore, Lidiqnata, Helga, Yuxi, and Agustin for meshes (in this dump. More in others), Lyn for making sure I had a working copy of Photoshop, Pooklet for her color actions and for making sure they work with various versions of Photoshop, Cynnix (not much in this one for you, I'm afraid, but I've got two more dumps this size to do and I'ma try and get them up today) for doing pregmorphs on assorted meshes and asking that I do long, straight hair that goes behind the shoulders, and to my generous donators, who made it possible for me to release twenty hairs all in one go without getting my Photobucket hammered.

HEY LISTEN! Meshes are included. Swatches are included in the zip files, everything is compressorized. Polycounts vary; Melodie9's meshes are the same as Maxis, but you may assume Newsea meshes are on the high side. Elders go gray, but you also get Time Bomb in the custom bin, just in case Primer isn't platinum enough for you. All female hairs are maternity-wear enabled from teen and up, and all male hairs from YA and up, to stop the weird hair disappearing act that happens if you don't have a Pregnant Sims Wear Any Outfit hack (but why wouldn't you?).

ANNOYING THINGS I DO: My filenames are stupidly long, so please feel free to shorten them. Better you edit them to suit your needs than I hand you thirty different files that are all named VOLATILE and piss everyone off, right? Also, each hair has an elder gray attached instead of only being stuck to black or blond (because if you want to only keep four colors or something, this way you can swap out textures and still have all the grays. Or choose which color you want your gray carried on. Whatever). Feel free to re-bin things to suit yourself, or do the neons, or whatever. Go hog wild, seriously. Just keep it off of paysites and give credit where credit is due (which may vary per hair).

Should you donate, you are entitled to make a request-- something off my hair list or my to-do list or even just a straight-up request, and if I've got the skills for it, I'll give it a go. (Once it's done, it's free for everybody to download, of course.) I will also happily barter stuff on my to-do lists or requests for things I wish exsisted that do not yet exist or in-game preview photos of some of these hairs so I can upload them to GoS once in a while.

There will not be a great variation of faces in these hair dumps-- however, short female hair will always be on The Guessing Knight up there. As usual, I try to stick to hair that would be at least a little appropriate to a Medieval game, although short hair on women in my game tends to signal either a woman of the church or a woman pretending to be a boy, as with Dame Sir up there.

You're welcome and thank you! I'm glad you like what you've found. Please keep in mind that Nobody's Hero and Tidy Creature are still Maxis textures, they've just been softened a bit. ... Okay Tidy Creature was softened a LOT, but it's still Maxis handpainting under a layer of meticulously assembled Motion Blur to un-crunch the textures.

I like so many of the base game hairstyles, especially for my theme, but they can be HARD to retexture.

Actually, there should be three hair dumps today, if I don't run completely dry on names.

And hair-culling is what I do every time I bin a batch of hairs. "Okay, that's done, it's working, let's ditch the original unless it's Nouked..." Once I finish my hair list, I get to dump all my old hairs back IN so I can fix up all my founders in the bin.

... Well, I could try defaulting them--I think it's just a matter of finding the right textures-- but you'd have to tell me which ones you want done and maybe also give me some time... I'm so close to finished with my hair list that I swear I can taste it, and there are a few Maxis meshes (or all-age conversions) that I've yet to get to.

I could certainly think of a couple things I've been longing for lately-- can I drop you a PM? I need a break from trying to come up with names for hairs before I just start trolling TV Tropes and grabbing song titles before I name something Siuil a Run, anyway.

As for how long something takes... well, if an individual hair takes me more than a couple of days of work, I'm liable to declare it unfixable. But I have to be in just the right mood to make hairs (at which point I tend to make a whole bunch at once, failing to shut down Body Shop so I can bin them until I have... oh, at least five, sometimes ten or twelve). Then I've got to make swatches and name hairs, and the naming can be HARD.

So things tend to back up while I get myself into the right mood to put swatches and cute names together, and then I post a dump. Because if I took in-game photos and posted each hair singly, I'd NEVER get anything uploaded.

It takes me a long time to do them because I'm so bad about taking pictures. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to do each hair, but I'd feel terrible about uploading them without swatches. Even if I had someone willing to take preview pictures for me, I'd still want swatches in the files I upload... and with usually-seventeen packages of varying size, it takes long enough to upload my files that it wouldn't make sense to do that twice. So I put it off until I have enough hairs that I can post a whole mess of them all at once, and people feel dazzled because there are so many of them and don't mind that it's kind of a bulk-club post instead of a pretty boutique post (or so I hope).

As always, I like the mix of old and new in the hair dumps. I'm always glad to see someone share my appreciation for some of the more forgotten goodies. I only wish that I played period, or that you did more modern stuff so I had a use for everything!

I really, really, really someone defaults your versions of these Maxis hairs, too, because they actually make me want to use them. And I've had hiders for [i]years[/i] of practically anything that wasn't mohawk-related for Maxis hairs. XD

I did the Jeanette hair! It was by anonymous request, but apparently it's pretty popular.

The nice thing about Medieval hairs is that they tend to work for more contemporary periods, too-- long hair is long hair, whether it's 994 or 2011. I don't even stick to specifically Medieval styles as much as I try to stick to things that would've been physically possible during the Middle Ages-- nothing that requires mousse, for example.

Lothere has visited my dumps! Malcolm's been wearing my Unsuitable for Elves for a while now, and it makes me all giddy. I totally love it when I see other people's Sims wearing my hairs. It tickles me.

I use Ja's defaults, but even if somebody does default packages, I think I'll keep using hiders plus all-ages versions. (Although I totally welcome somebody using my textures on NPC hairs. Except the long/maid one, I don't like how it came out.) I'm generally pro-all-age everything.
