I don't even remember how many hairs I have done. I hit twenty-three names and swatches and said to myself "That's a good number to post as-is."
Downloads are inside the cut, so the boilerplate goes outside the cut. The boilerplate is...
NO PAYSITES. Mesh creators' policies may vary, but Pooklet says no and these are her actions.
PRAISE BE UNTO: Nouk, for meshes and shiny new wavy textures that I shall be heartily abusing, Melodie9, for age and gender conversions of Maxis meshes, Ja, for textures I periodically pilfer, Newsea, Cevic, Callum, M&T Sims Cakestore, Lidiqnata, Helga, Yuxi, and Agustin for meshes (in this dump. More in others), Lyn for making sure I had a working copy of Photoshop, Pooklet for her color actions and for making sure they work with various versions of Photoshop, Cynnix (not much in this one for you, I'm afraid, but I've got two more dumps this size to do and I'ma try and get them up today) for doing pregmorphs on assorted meshes and asking that I do long, straight hair that goes behind the shoulders, and to my generous donators, who made it possible for me to release twenty hairs all in one go without getting my Photobucket hammered.
HEY LISTEN! Meshes are included. Swatches are included in the zip files, everything is compressorized. Polycounts vary; Melodie9's meshes are the same as Maxis, but you may assume Newsea meshes are on the high side. Elders go gray, but you also get Time Bomb in the custom bin, just in case Primer isn't platinum enough for you. All female hairs are maternity-wear enabled from teen and up, and all male hairs from YA and up, to stop the weird hair disappearing act that happens if you don't have a Pregnant Sims Wear Any Outfit hack (but why wouldn't you?).
ANNOYING THINGS I DO: My filenames are stupidly long, so please feel free to shorten them. Better you edit them to suit your needs than I hand you thirty different files that are all named VOLATILE and piss everyone off, right? Also, each hair has an elder gray attached instead of only being stuck to black or blond (because if you want to only keep four colors or something, this way you can swap out textures and still have all the grays. Or choose which color you want your gray carried on. Whatever). Feel free to re-bin things to suit yourself, or do the neons, or whatever. Go hog wild, seriously. Just keep it off of paysites and give credit where credit is due (which may vary per hair).
EVEN MORE ANNOYING: Everybody sees a hair dump, so...
Wanna help me feed my cats?
In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.
There are twenty-three large pics behind the cut. Dial-up users beware.
If you spot any broken links or other idiocy, please let me know!

There will not be a great variation of faces in these hair dumps-- however, short female hair will always be on The Guessing Knight up there. As usual, I try to stick to hair that would be at least a little appropriate to a Medieval game, although short hair on women in my game tends to signal either a woman of the church or a woman pretending to be a boy, as with Dame Sir up there.

Nouk's waves. I dig them. And I'll say right here that it would thrill and flatter me if somebody wanted to use any of these hairs as default replacements. Thrill and flatter me to bits and pieces.

I hate this hair. I hate how many groups it has, I hate how it crunches, I hate how it's mapped, and I damn near gave up in disgust. Not my best work, but maybe somebody else out there can look at it and turn it into something awesome. Waves nicked from Nouk's Valentines hair.

I've mentioned the default thing, right? (This one needs work, I Pooklet'd right over the danged tiara, but that's easy to fix.) Anyway, you literally cannot go wrong with this hair. Contemporary? Victorian? Medieval? Regency? Greco-Roman? This hair works. Okay, so maybe not for Ancient Egypt or something, but it's just a nice simple off-the-neck hair, to which one could add a thousand hats and accessories.

Because simple male hairs are worth it. However, this hair does have kind of a seam that sometimes shows but is also present on the Maxis version. Handpainting failure?

I know this one's been Pooklet'd before, but I didn't like how the highlights fell and it lacked elder grays, so I did it again myself. Being Newsea, this is probably high-poly... but sometimes high-poly is too pretty to walk away from.

I had to, okay? It's not perfect (stupid hand-painting insanity mapping), it's not exactly Medieval, but it does look cute on little girls, and it's one of those meshes that Medieval Simmers look at and think "That could work!"

Date: 2011-02-22 07:06 pm (UTC)Mm, I'm not blaming Maxis for leaving that aspect out (although they do have funky ideas of which age groups are most likely to wet their pants), but it'd be a handy-if-scary mod to have. Eva was thinking of requesting it somewhere when her exams were done-- something like 'roll dice on both, roll dice on mother (baby is safe), roll dice on baby (mother is safe), ignore (everyone is safe),' so there's an element of randomness... it honestly seems like it ought to be an easy mod to make, depending on how hard calculating the odds is, but it could easily conflict with things like, um, InTeen.

Date: 2011-02-22 07:16 pm (UTC)Umm, while I have your attention, could I possibly ask a completely unrelated question? Are there are Maxis picture meshes that have suitably medieval frames? I'm making a few recolours at present, and some of the textures are distinctly medieval looking, so I wanted to use an appropriate mesh if possible...
no subject
Date: 2011-02-22 07:30 pm (UTC)Also, fffffff I don't know. Um. If I were you, I'd look for simple wooden frames, nothing too ornamental. I honestly don't know how Medieval paintings were framed (in part because they were usually painted on wooden planks, not canvas), but I know there are a lot of baroque frames out there that are just too over-the-top for most Medieval artwork. Really, nothing seems to feel right but simple mitered wood or maybe thin gold gilding, for all I know they were master carvers.
Googling gives me NOTHING here.

Date: 2011-02-23 09:56 pm (UTC)I tried good old Google too, and came up with very little, except obviously fake medieval stuff! I figured maybe the 'Bella Squared' mesh might be best, as that is a fairly simple wooden frame, so it sounds like I'm along the right lines. Sorry to bug you (you're just so darned well informed that I couldn't help asking), and thanks. :)

Date: 2011-02-23 10:11 pm (UTC)If I minded people asking me questions, I'd stop blathering on about stuff so much. I'm sure there's a real answer somewhere, but it's hard to go wrong with something you know they could've done that avoids things you know for sure they didn't do. Everything I found that showed a frame showed a gilded frame that was part of the painting, like some of those awesome old triptychs that fold closed.

Date: 2011-02-24 01:42 pm (UTC)Mind you, I suppose 'Medieval' covers a pretty large period of time really, so I guess there might be a fair amount of freedom here.
Anyway, I actually had a hair-related question: I was wondering whether you might have done (I couldn't see it, but perhaps I'm blind)/be thinking of doing a female version of the 'Jeanette' hair with Nouk's lovely wavy textures (i.e. your 'C'est Moi' for girls)?
no subject
Date: 2011-02-25 12:55 pm (UTC)I hadn't even thought about doing the original Jeanette-- I could, if you want it, but I refuse to promise when I'll be finished with my list. (Although I wouldn't have any problem if somebody beat me to it. Since the version for men is done, it'd be a pretty simple copy/paste job.) Generally, I prefer longer hairs that look like they've never been cut for my womenfolk (or shorter hairs for monastic, once-monastic, or Fa Mulan Jeanne d'Arc Sweet Polly Oliver types), so I tend to gloss right over the mid-length female hairs for some reason. Which is silly of me, since women who cut their hair are liable to have growing-out phases.
no subject
Date: 2011-02-25 03:50 pm (UTC)Of course I'd love it if you were to do the female 'Jeanette', but I'd quite understand if it's not really suitable for your game, and I can easily do the copy-paste myself, if you'd be happy for me to do that. :)
no subject
Date: 2011-02-25 04:50 pm (UTC)I'll put it on my list, but if you get fed up waiting for me and do it first, I won't mind. Heck, I'll send you my PSD if you want it.

Date: 2011-02-25 05:07 pm (UTC)And yes please, the PSD would be really useful!
