Open for Business gives shiny new opportunities to Medieval Sims-- no longer are peasants stuck being Oceanographers or Prestidigitators. No, now they can be toymakers or florists or farmers or... um, roboticists. Okay, so let's leave that one for the witches-- who, by the way, can have a magic shop! If you have Bon Voyage, you can dig for treasure or comb for seashells and sell what you salvage.

Trouble is, it suffers from the same Fantastic Plastic Syndrome as pretty much everything else in Sims 2. As usual, that's where I come in.

Money don't get everything, it's true
But what it don't get, I can't use
Give me money
That's what I want

I thought about using Takin' Care of Business, but hey.

Here's a simple business-- a lemonade stand! The cups used to be bright green plastic, and I swear if I can ever find that pitcher, I'll default it to something more earth-toned, too. Requires OFB.

Really, the deed wasn't that bad at all. I kind of liked it. But now it's parchment instead of paper and has my rampant lion seal on it, and a modified catalog description. This also works for deeds to vacation homes in Bon Voyage. Requires either BV or OFB.

And double-duty is why this default looks a bit funky. The clipboard-- used for restocking or changing prices-- also ends up in the hands of the Grim Reaper... but with different UV mapping. The margin-to-margin scrawl is a trade-off for giving Death a more dramatic list. (Nobody's dead, or I'd have pictures of that.) Requires OFB for use as shown.

Simlish parchment out-of-stock signs! One image, three meshes, neatly slaved. Yeah, not much to say here. Requires OFB.

I am SO PLEASED with this mirror. Seriously so pleased. Lovely elegant celtic knotwork-- it's the same on the reverse, just with, you know, a mirror graphic (non-reflective, I'd've fixed that if I could). For use with the makeover chair, requires OFB.

Okay, so I didn't change much on the Rally Forth megaphone-- in fact, I just sort of mellowed the bright-white color. If I were more sure it wouldn't warp all to hell, I'd've put a woodgrain pattern on it. Requires OFB.

Actually, there are three patterns for shopping bags, but I only ever seemed to catch two. I guess Serviette's two level-ten businesses just aren't classy enough? All three are burlap, though, and they get finer-woven and lighter as your customers buy more expensive goodies. Requires OFB.

I think this one does double-duty, too. I first saw the ticket pad in the hands of the Secret Shopper, but I suspect it'll show up if you call the police or fire department when you don't have an emergency. But I don't actually KNOW for sure, so I'm going to say requires OFB for use as shown.

And if the Secret Shopper likes you, you end up with a Best of the Best award! No, I'm not super-pleased with this, but I hope somebody out there will come up with a better version that I can use. I didn't want to slap another rampant lion on the thing, so I thought, "Hey, crown!" and... yeah. It's still better than the giant stupid #1 on the original-- at least it's in Simlish. Requires OFB.

If you run a venue business, you need a Bandatron station. If you have a Bandatron station, you'll notice it pops up these little red tickets. ... Well, I wanted parchment ones, so there.

Hey, wait a minute! This is supposed to be business AND MONEY defaults, right?

Well, the money gave me a right headache to design, but I finally came up with something I liked, thanks to FyrDragon linking me to something rather inspiring.

Behold the Royal Simoleon! Because there's enough stuff in a Sim's inventory without adding gold coins too, right? (Seriously I'd've used coins if I were any good with meshes at ALL.) The First Simoleon Award shown requires Open for Business.

The cash register note, however, just requires the base game.

As does the modified tip jar. I also aged the label a little bit and, as of April 17, 2010, removed the masking tape and updated the tip that your Sims drop INTO the jar when tipping higher amounts. Requires University.

Seasons is required for the Wishing Well Bag O' Simoleons...

And because I'm ridiculously proud of it, here's a top view. The coins use the same texture as the gold coin you throw in the Bon Voyage monkey fountain and Seasons wishing well, I just made silver and copper ones to go along with the gold.

And of course, the money tree. There are two parts to this one-- first, the money tree BILL, and second the money tree RECOLOR. The bill is a default, and it turns the pick-able simoleons into my parchment money. The recolor is a regular old recolor, and you will need CEP for it to show up. Why didn't I default it? ... I dunno. The Money Tree is a Base Game aspiration reward.

Okay, onward to boilerplate.

First, these are (except for the money tree recolor) DEFAULT REPLACEMENTS. As with black widow spiders and Immortals, there can be only one. If you have a replacement for any of these items already and you'd rather use one of mine, you'll have to pull the first one from your game. It probably won't cause a BFBVFS, but the last mod loaded wins... and since my filenames start with [, it won't be me.

Second, NO BLOODY PAYSITES. No donation files or TSR, either. These are defaults. They aren't even new-mesh defaults. For crying out loud, go through the Unknown category in Object Workshop in SimPE and pull out your own templates if you're going to be greedy enough to demand payment for default replacements.

Third, if you do NOT intend to use them for paysites, donation files, or The Dreaded TSR, please feel free to use my defaults as templates! Because my money is stupid and yours is sure to be better. If you want the original templates with the meshes and all, let me know and I'll get them to you. Just please link me to it-- maybe I'll like yours better than mine! I heartily encourage making your own money defaults-- I used the heraldry of MY royal house, after all... and it's a lot easier to follow my cash for the sake of UV mapping than the stuff EAxis used. MAN that drove me NUTS.

Fourth, these are as ever compressorized. The actual download file is as large as it is because it includes photos.

And I just want to say that Serviette, my business owner, is using Amaryll's lovely Androgynous Steampunk Servos, and I do hope to have a polished oak version on that mesh done... soonish.

Onward to downloading!

If you downloaded this set before April 17, 2010, you might be interested in my revised tip jar. I removed the masking tape and found and replaced the bill that Sims drop in the jar when tipping in higher amounts, because of course there had to be a separate mesh and texture for THAT, too. You'll have to delete the old tip jar manually, but the new one should fall into place right after it, if you sort by name.

If you downloaded this set before June 23, 2010, you might be interested in my parchment Bandatron ticket. Yeah, I know, I kind of fail at getting everything all in one go. At least this time there's nothing to replace?

Wanna help me feed my cats?

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.

Heh-- bills are simplistic in the first place. No worries-- just wanted to make sure that in the blur of default replacing you didn't forget them.
