Behind the cut lurk twenty hairs for your downloading pleasure. Because I have a massive hair dump for you guys tonight, I decided to divide by the sort of Sim I took pictures of. This is the Normal Female post, and all the pictures are of my nameless peasant chick based around Alfred Askew's Toothy template.
Since there are a zillion downloads inside the cut, the boilerplate goes outside the cut, so...
NO PAYSITES. Mesh creators' policies may vary, my policy says I want a cut (like that would ever happen), but Pooklet says no and these are Pooklet's actions. So no paysites.
PRAISE BE UNTO: Rose, Melodie9, Marja, Marko, Trapping, Sue of XM Sims, Lidiqnata, Hysterical Paroxysm, SAU MYOS, and Raon for meshes, Aquilegia, FantasyRogue, and Nouk for meshes and textures, Ja for her curved bit that I lean on far too much, Lyn for making sure I had a working copy of Photoshop, Pooklet for making sure Project Mayhem worked with my copy of Photoshop (and for their textures), my lovely donors who make sure I can keep my photos online (which lets me post hair dumps at all), and you lot for your comments and support (and I totally consider racking up downloads to be support).
HEY LISTEN! Meshes are included unless otherwise noted. Swatches are included in the zip files, everything is compressorized. Poly counts may vary; I've started adding poly counts to the dump info (but I always manage to look at the poly count AFTER recoloring the hair). Elders go gray, but you also get Time Bomb in the custom bin, just in case Primer isn't platinum enough for you. All female hairs are maternity-wear enabled from teen and up, and all male hairs from YA and up, to stop the weird hair disappearing act that happens if you don't have a Pregnant Sims Wear Any Outfit hack (but why wouldn't you?).
ANNOYING THINGS I DO: Because I credit everybody in them, my folder and file names are stupidly long. Feel free to shorten one, the other, or both as you please-- better you edit them to suit your needs than I just name everything [COLOR NAME] and cheese everybody off, right? Also, each hair color has an elder gray attached instead of only black. Feel free to re-bin everything and cut out the extra grays, or only use one family but swap out textures so your elders have some variety, whatever. Likewise, I bin using Pooklet's original scheme, because it's a nice easy default. I totally do not care if you re-bin things to suit your own tastes (but hey, every hair has a gray attached in case you need it!), and neither does Pooklet, so do whatever makes you happy, binning-wise.
EVEN MORE ANNOYING: Everybody sees a hair dump, so...
Wanna help me feed my cats?
In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.
Yes, if you want to do the unnaturals, please feel free to do the unnaturals. I have no plans to do so. Just remember to credit properly-- I tend to use Nouk's waves, FR's braid, and a chunk of curve I stole off Ja's Uni ponytail default, but anyone I credit, you should credit.
If you spot any broken links or other idiocy, please let me know!
There are twenty large pics behind the cut, cats and kittens. Dial-up users beware.

So let's start things off with a re-do! I'm not exactly unhappy with my original recolor of this mesh, but I'm a lot happier with this version. True, it stretches the hell out of Nouk's waves, but the texture works better, I think-- and the alpha makes it look a little less... full of static electricity. Remember, FR's mesh edit saws off the un-alpha-editable butterfly from the back of the head-- and I didn't bother recoloring it, so if you don't use the included mesh, you're going to get hair-colored butterflies.

And THIS time, I'm happy with the goddamned thing. This mesh is a nightmare to recolor. It crunches in the back and has more groups per age than is reasonable. Don't clone things off this mesh, kids. It will only end in tears. Tears and fire.

For my game, this looks sort of like a middle stage. Hair that's been cut down to Dame Sir length (who is Dame Not Appearing In This Post, but she's in another section of the dump today) and allowed to grow back in. Maybe she left the military, or they accepted that they have, in fact, a Lady General instead of a Lord General.

There's a male version of this tucked away in Part Two of this three-part series. Considering I have long, fine hair, long, fine hair for my Sims is something that's almost as hard for me to resist as braids, or curls. Sure, all my ladies should be wearing caps or veils or wimples or hats, but you've got to take a bath sometime, right?

Date: 2011-08-18 06:37 pm (UTC)I've been sorting clothes by expansion lately, too-- sticking my Asian and Castaway clothes to Bon Voyage and my vampire-and-Gypsy-specific clothes to Nightlife and my 'this outfit is just leaves' clothes to Seasons. That's kind of rocking my socks, actually-- it makes it a LOT easier to find what I'm looking for, what with all the clothing hiders I have, and I no longer have blobs of hakamas and grass skirts inbetween my nice Medieval clothes. I'm seriously considering doing the same to hair.
But now it's lunchtime. Happy downloading!

Date: 2011-08-19 12:16 am (UTC)It's... there are about two creative parts of the whole process; the actual retexturing, and then coming up with cute names. Building the packages, renaming them, checking the tooltips, binning, making the swatches, uploading... If I had a robot monkey, I could teach my robot monkey to do that part and just handle the fun stuff. Alas, I do not have a robot monkey... but I also don't have a huge backlog of hairs I 'desperately need' in my game anymore.
... At least. Not hairs that exist.
But hey, you're welcome, and thank you, and thank you again for thinking of how draining robot monkey work is. (Comments and seeing people downloading my goodies perks me right up again.)

Date: 2011-08-19 02:15 am (UTC)However, now that you've clued me in to that MtF Tenshi Akari fade conversion, and the male version is one I've yet to post, I've got to go do that one all nice and texture referenced. Because that's my main theme, I've got three (now four) hairs with the one gender using the textures of the other.
Nabbed a few hairs, and I never thought I'd need ANOTHER retexture of that SAU mesh with the long waves, but this new one looks good, I think I'll keep it along with the other one. I try so hard to have varied hair textures in my game, there are so many straight or slightly curled hairs, it's nice to have variety.

Date: 2011-08-19 02:24 am (UTC)I've been slapping Nouk's waves on everything to see what they stick to. That one worked out nicely, although I wish the waves didn't stretch so much in the front. I also tried to put the SAU spiral curls on it, but that did not work out so well. (I talked myself out of trying Nouk's Valentine curls.)
Glad you found a few things you could use!

Date: 2011-08-20 07:04 am (UTC)Since you posted the article about organizing buy mode content I've wanted to ask if you'd been to BAS lately, I recently posted two things that may interest you. Skinless skins for bodyshapes, which we spoke about at one point, and a kit to organize clothing in the buy catalog. The latter is also available from a thread in the shout box at simbology.
thetigerking83

Date: 2011-08-20 07:16 am (UTC)I'll go and have a look at BAS, but I think I saw the organizing clothes thing-- faux expansion packs, right? I actually don't think that's something I'd use, because I've been sorting some of my clothes by expansion already (well, I have all these hiders, so hardly anything Maxis shows up anyway), and I've noticed the tooltips don't come up in Body Shop when you sort by expansion. If I ever want to recolor anything, that's a problem. I lean on tooltips kind of a lot, and even add or update them when they don't have enough information for my liking.
(Besides, there are only half a dozen bodyshapes I'd use besides the default-- Aquilegia's androgyny, the Lean Bodybuilder if he ever gets a female equivalent, and the RenGal if she ever gets a male equivalent-- and only once there are enough Medieval meshes to go 'round for both sexes. I think I could keep track of those by sight.)
no subject
Date: 2011-08-20 07:23 am (UTC)Probably worth DLing the Bodyshape organization kit just to read the documentation I included. In your own game you could do it however you like.
thetigerking83
no subject
Date: 2011-08-20 07:51 am (UTC)I think I did grab the kit to look at the documentation, just to see how the faux EPs were handled (very similarly to the regular EPs, which I use to move my exotic, fantasy, and ninja outfits to their own little area away from my regular outfits), but almost all Medieval meshes are made for the default Maxis shape. Medieval simmers got 99 problems, so to speak, but bodyshapes ain't one of them. If I can't find clothing meshes for a shape (and I have pretty high standards when it comes to things like... morphs, and how fabric fits over the bust, and whether rippled abdominals show through clothing), then I pass it up, because I can't use it.

I'm hoping you have suggestions, please. Thank you. If you feel like it, you can responds at taratears@yahoo.com
Re: none of your hairs are showing, but mts customs are
Date: 2015-08-04 05:19 am (UTC)#1 is filepath length. Your computer can only read I think 250 characters in a filepath, starting from C (or whatever the drive letter is). Try shortening file and folder names, shallow subfoldering (two folders deep is as far as I'd recommend you go), and maybe downloading a bulk renamer to get rid of the special characters-- anything that isn't 0-9, A-Z, _, or -. (I've stopped using those, but on older hairs there are still spaces and brackets.)
#2 is clearing your cache files, which doesn't usually prevent new content from showing up but it's worth a shot anyway. In your EA Games/Sims 2 folder, delete anything that isn't a folder itself-- usually it's files like cigen.package and accessory.cache.
#3 is... well, how much custom content do you have? There's a limit, based on your computer's processing power, to how many individual package files the game will read. After a point it just stops.
