The trouble (she said) with having a fairly specific idea of how you want to present something is that you then actually have to put forth that presentation.

Hair dump coming... Oh, I hope before too long-- I need to name a bunch of hairs and, hey, take a bunch of previews. Some of the upcoming goodies are particularly Medieval, too, so that's fun. That's what I have presentation ideas for, but fun presentation requires me to throw some more Sims into the testerhood.

Probably coming sooner is Part Eleven in the Default Replace Everything project-- hobbies! No magazines, there's a ton of them, so they're getting their own post later. I'm also almost done with Party and Games-- got one thing left to go, except that one thing is the deck of cards for the poker table. That's right, even the playing cards are too modern for me; I've got to go and swap 'em out with some accurate (and lovely!) fifteenth century hunting-themed cards. So my 'one thing left' is actually 'fifty-three things left.' Brilliance! *facepalm* (If I were reasonable, I'd just separate the poker chips (coins!) and cards into their own post, like the magazines are getting their own post, but when did I ever say I was reasonable?)

Oh hey, did I point this out yet? Ja took Daislia's Altair hood and turned it from a teen-through-elder hair into an all-ages accessory! Very exciting. I shall be recoloring those a lot! (Technically it breaks Daislia's policy, but I had permission to ask for it to be converted into an all-ages mesh, fixing the too-tall teen age included. That it's an accessory instead of a hair... I dunno, but it IS a spiffy way to have your hats.)

Oh oh oh, and something that truly thrills me-- I fixed the damned newspaper! I finally figured out what was throwing me. The newspaper, for those who don't know, is the first thing I tried to default-replace myself. I was using the Fairy Sims one, but it wasn't a simple texture replacement, and it broke a lot of stuff if used in later expansions. I managed to denude it, but the second inside pages always turned from foolscap to newsprint, making me a sad Hat. Well, I found the Inside 2 textures! I tested it (by making a solid blue newspaper) and it works and now I can make proper Medieval newspapers! That'll be in the Miscellany Defaults, with the bills.

(At some point pretty quick here, I have to take a break from Sims Crap and storm up some new inventory for the show season. My brain loves to make stuff, but it doesn't always stop to think if it's stuff I can sell before going 'ooh ooh you could do this!')

What? Newspapers? Excuse me while I squeal like a little girl! I was SO disappointed that Fairy Sims' newspaper wouldn't work for me and thought it looked a little odd when my default page dropped off a white newspaper. That was already starting to bug me. I'm so happy to hear you're doing one. And the playing cards! There's a lovely medieval poker table recolor over at MTS2 that I downloaded and then thought the cards looked out of place. Soon some of my Royal Kingdom Challenge sims will be able to open a business where others can come to play a fitting card game for the time period. I can't thank you enough for all your awesome defaults. They really help me escape real life and *feel* like I'm running a medieval kingdom. :D

Newspapers! I can't believe it took me this long to go find all the pieces-- it used the same method needed for the multiple states on the Seasons produce, the juggling balls, the playing cards...

The Fairy Sims newspaper doesn't work because it's not JUST a texture default. She left all the functions and whatnot in there, too, so everything the newspaper would do by default is overwritten by her version. How she managed to break it so that you not only can't compost the sucker but you can't find a job (even with the computer or Mog Hughson's job board), I do not know.

Ah, I see. I know nothing of modding, but am so grateful to those, like yourself, who are stubborn enough to poke around at it long enough to make it work.

Also, do you mind if I shamelessly plug your site at the RKC yahoo group in case others may be wanting a more themed medieval neighborhood?

I don't really do much in the way of modding besides default replacements-- and until I have the time to figure out mesh replacements, it's texture replacements only for me. Well, that and recolors.

And hey, feel free to plug away! I post so people can share, and as far as I'm concerned there's no need to ask if you can link to me.

Default replacements are AWESOME. Especially for medieval times because it really sets the mood. When I get back into storytelling, having the set actually match the story without using trick shots will be such a relief. Many times I had to arrange shots to hide the road or the sidewalk (either that or edit it out later), but with defaults that actually match it will be so much easier. YAY!

The road, the sidewalk, the kids' homework, the fire extinguisher, the bug spray... The Servos... Eventually, most of the live.package text... Gotta live the dream.

I should be able to get one more set of defaults out by the end of the day tomorrow, if I a) get a decent title card shot and b) finish the last few hairs on my list.
