Or, the one in which it takes Hat eight tries to get a goddamn flaming poo bag.

Nightlife bestowed upon Sims 2 players two shiny new things-- restaurant community lots and the ability to go on dates. While the Crayola Plastic Syndrom didn't strike too hard here (except at the bar), there were also a few anachronisms that I wanted to change, and a hella crunchy texture on the menu that I wasn't happy with, cute little plumb bob or not.

Fill the board, let there be plenty
The man who wants to be content
Eats and drinks enough for twenty
When we're met together!

So okay here we go.

First, the menu. Cute as the little plumb bob was, I felt like I needed something that could look classy or battered... and the Woolbats font was a very great help with the graphics.

Another Simlish scribbled thing is the waiter's notepad. Seeing as how the default EAxis texture was actually a receipt book, I felt like this one really needed a change.

While you're out, you might grab something from the bar. I didn't do much to this one because I couldn't figure out how to make the blender pitcher mesh less modern, so the shiny blue part is now the shiny kinda-glazed-crockery-looking part.

The bar tray, on the other hand, I mucked around with. You've got your wood, your caning (actually it's a tiled wooden floor-- the UV mapping on that tray is more than a little silly), your pewter glasses-- not blue glass anymore, but something that could actually survive a drunken lout dropping it!-- and funnily enough, the drink itself is more of an amber color... This is the poured drink, which used to be blue.

And this is the blended drink, which used to be red and is apparently more popular in this household. And actually, here's a point where I made a mistake in the read-me file included with these downloads-- I said that everything requires Nightlife except where noted. Well, the bar tray, pitcher, and glasses are actually base-game compatible and I'm just a ninny.

So you have eaten and drunk and now you've gone home. The next day when you get the mail, you see this:

Changed dialogue text for the Coupon for a Free meal, and...

Changed catalog text, too! Alas, your coupon won't look like this-- the coupon is slaved to the bills, so your coupon will look like whatever your bills look like. (Sunni has a lovely default replacement for bills here, and yes, someday I'll be releasing my default. Just... not today.)

I also did a little altering to another bar...

If you have Free Time, your Sims can have a nectar bar, just like back in the old Sims 1 days. The tray wasn't bad, actually, but it had some plastic bits I've replaced... and I thought one little bar tray would be a good place to use my burled-wood texture. I didn't change the cups, but I did change the color of the liquid-- this is the grape nectar.

This is the berry...

And that's the peach. Yeah, the colors are a little bright (although they look better in a room lit by firelight instead of out in the front yard, where I took these pics), but they're still better than the originals. And since they're a TXMT change, making the colors suit your taste instead of mine is as easy as finding the RGB combo of the color you'd like to swap them out with and changing my colors for yours in SimPE.

And if you use these dining and drinking defaults while dating, you could end up with something like this:

Pardon me while I bask in the glory of that sack of crap for a minute. It is really hard to push a date down into the Horrible area of the meter, even with a mean Wicked Witch and Boolpropping it down into the Bad area (which is as far as it would take me). I mean, really, really hard.

Okay, defaults.

Good Date rewards-- the single flower, the bouquet, and the love letter. I wasn't going to do much to the bouquet, but when I actually looked at it in-game I was dismayed to find that the roses were just red blobs. Google provided some lovely pictures, so now we have some lovely flowers.

And if you don't like red, there's a pink version, too. I really wanted the single rose to be pink while the bouquet was red roses, but alas they are slaved. You can only choose one color option-- dump 'em all in and you'll get red roses, because it loads last.

The love letter as it comes in the mail-- parchment instead of pink.

And the hate letter, which was inexplicably purple.

And then there's the other thing I did...

Catalog text and dialogue strings for the single flower, the Dream Date bouquet...

The Love and Hate letters...

And that damnable Flaming Bag of Poo. I didn't change the textures here-- I didn't really think they needed it-- just the poetry. And yes, I wrote all the poetry myself, because most of it just wasn't period-sounding enough for my tastes-- or my game.

So! Those were the pictures, on to the boilerplate.

For the Money: No bloody paysites. I hate it when people demand money for defaults. No donation files, no TSR, none of that crap. Don't do it. It's not awesome. If you are not using them for any form of paysite, feel totally free to use my defaults as templates for your own. And please leave me a link to them-- maybe I'll like yours better'n mine and use them, instead.

For the Show: Gotta thank Quaxi for SimPE, without which there would be bright blue booze, Lyn for making sure I had a working copy of Photoshop, without which I'd be up MS Paint creek, Lord Darcy and HugeLunatic, whose tutorials on invisible objects taught me how to make my bar tumblers shiny but opaque, to Oph3lia to pointing me to a page of runic fonts that had the Woolbats font on it, to the mess of Goslings who gave me feedback on the date flowers (even if I didn't change the pink ones-- I think I got attached to that particular rose), and of course to anyone who has ever posted a big, clear image and left google-able search terms on the page.

Get Ready: These are Default Replacements. I'll grant you, I've never seem any of these defaulted before, but I've done two variations on the date flowers-- you must choose one and only one. If you forget and double your defaults, the last mod loaded wins. Nightlife is required for everything that's not about drinking; the bar tray, blender, and tumblers work for the base game while the nectar bar tray and tumblers require Free Time. Tumblers may look less-than-pewtery under certain lights.

Go cat go! Right, enough of this nonsense, download time!

Wanna help me feed my cats?

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.
