Okay, so I leave for Disneyland at 6am tomorrow, and I still haven't put my build and buy stuff back in my downloads folder, so I come bearing the handful of hairs I managed to get Pooklet'd and named.

Because it's just not a download without a title.

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.

This one's going to work a little differently, because I have no nice bite-sized pics. So!

Because there are so many downloads, boilerplate goes outside the cut.

ONE: No bloody paysites. Pooklet says no and these are her actions.

TWO: Yes, elders all have gray hair-- Pipe Bomb for Family 1, Smoke Bomb (a homebrew gray, just Time Bomb on Multiply over Mail Bomb) for Family 2, Mail Bomb for Family 3, and Time Bomb for Family 4. I'm a dorkbucket and every color has an elder gray attached. Feel free to re-bin these as you please, I don't even care. Time Bomb is included as a custom; you never know when you're going to need a white hair, I guess.

THREE: Binned! Familied! Compressorized! Tooltipped! Meshes included except when they came with a game! Swatches included in the download file so you know what's in there!

FOUR: Praise be unto Pooklet, whose color actions now work with Photoshop 6 and up! Praise be unto Ja, who causes Maxis meshes to be Volatile by default so that they may be fully Pooklet'd! Praise be unto Quaxi, who brought us SimPE! Praise be unto Theo, whose color binning tool is pretty easy to use! Praise Be unto 8K, Coolsims, Melodie9, Fantasy Rogue, and XM Sims, whose meshes work so well! Praise be unto Alkaloid, Amaryll, Bec, Cavilez, FantasyRogue, SimGoddess, and ZoeJ, whose textures I have Pooklet'd without shame! Praise be unto Lyn, who provided me with Photoshop!

FIVE: Um, my file names and folder names are a little on the ridiculously long side. Please do feel free to edit those down, especially if you subfolder deeply. (Better I overdo it and you edit to taste than under-do it and leave you going "Dammit, wtf is this stupid hair?" later, right?) Also, for some reason, Antihero required separate packages for Teen and Adult/YA/Elder. I have no idea why, but... well, there you go. I blame Maxis.

Loads of pookleted hairs XD Funnily enough on cleaning out bodyshop again last night, I came upon that zoej edit of the xmsims mesh and thought 'hmm needs pookleting'

You should see my list of hairs to Pooklet. This is just the first bunch of 'em. (Later when I have time to take nice pics, I'll post them to GoS.)

I've always liked that ZoeJ hair, and I weep that I cannot retexture or I'd go and properly Pooklet the original XM Sims texture for that hair. I actually plan to try applying Volatile to one of the least-crunchy colors to see what happens... just not until I get back from vacation. If I get everything done in good time today I MIGHT have time to bin the stuff I've got sitting in Saved Sims.

Ought to be, you can either make a new project in Body Shop (these (or most of these, I forget) were cloned from fixed versions so the few that aren't all-ages shouldn't have extraneous ages if you use them to start new projects) or extract the adult textures in SimPE and slap 'em over the elder textures.

At least it's MOST of the work done for you? *grins*

Sweet, thank you. I can use some of these. I've been cleaning and reorganizing my hair folder (and removing most of the colours, so I'll only use select few. Less is more, for me :P) and more nicely textured hairs that I don't need to texture myself and already come in the basic shades I want is always good.

(sadly, I also though you might have led me to whoever retextured the version of coolsims 63 without any identifying tooltips or filenames that was lurking in my downloads folder. But unfortunately for me, yay for the retexturer, the one you have there was actually neatly and nicely labelled).

Bummer, I'm sorry you're having problems finding that set! I'm glad you like what I've done, though, and glad I've taken some stuff off your to-do list. (I think the NuiTR hair could be done shinier, but... I kinda like the current coarse-looking textures on it. I dunno.)

Disneyland was fun! Warmer than I'd hoped, but not too bad (sometimes in May it's very cool, sometimes it's kinda warm. We were in the mid-70s, which isn't all that bad), and I really need some new shoes. I took a bunch of pictures, some of which I think might be useful as textures. Of note: despite the fact that Disneyland has, in the last few years, beautifully and thematically re-tiled all their restrooms, people will still look at you funny if you stop to take pictures of the floor. Go figure.

I eventually did locate it, thankfully. So I can rename it to have the retexturer's name in it rather than "unknown". That kinda thing sure makes me want to make sure anything I release atleast has my initials and the mesh creator/mesh number in the tooltip >.< Which leads me to curse at Peggy for her crap naming system.

The NuiTR hair looks nice to me in the pics, though I see what you mean about the shine. I haven't currently downloaded it yet as I'm debating whether I'd have a use for it or not. Sometimes hard to say, I didn't think I'd have a use for coolsims 63 either but then I ended up sticking it on a sim that it looked good on anyway.

I'm glad you had a good time! 70 isn't too bad, although probably warm if you're out of the shade and having to stand in line anywhere or anything.

Man, Peggy's naming is-- I don't even know. It stinks. It's okay on the monthly gifts (... *snicker*), but the rest of them are just... *headshake*

I could probably retexture the NuiTR hair myself, since it seems pretty flat and straightforward (Photoshop 6 has no warp tool), but I kinda like it as-is. It's very confusing. And yeah, it is kind of an odd hair, but it's a men's hair that fits the head. I tend to use it on manly men who'd just want their hair out of their faces.

I'm from the Bay Area, so 70-or-so isn't too bad at all... there was a good stiff breeze most of the time, so standing in the sun was hot, standing in the shade was cool, and standing in the air-conditioned shops was warmer than standing in the shade. Only thing that really makes me sulk is that my sunblock kept crapping out. I'm not burned, just singed enough to notice it-- and to vow to stick with Neutrogena instead of the 'comparable' store brand with the same SPF.

I know. And she changed it somewhere along the line. I've just taken to naming it after what she names the meshes on her own site, not what the actual mesh filenames are.

True, I can see uses for it for that kinda thing. Long hair for guys for sims is difficult, as a lot of the conversions are rather a bit too gelled and fluffed up really (doesn't stop me using a handful of them).

Pfft. 70s is nice weather around here but I wouldn't want it to get much hotter. I don't handle warm weather well at all (aside from the part where I turn into a freckled lobster if I stay out in the sun too much, I also tend to feel like I'm melting.. plus there's the headache inducing sun glare). Man, sucky sunblock D: That's the worst. Let's hope the burn's not too bad and heals quick.

That's what I do, except her site makes NoScript cry, and even when I allow it, it takes me a couple of tries to load pages. At least the Booty makes naming easier.

Yeah, my trouble with the gelled and fluffy styles is that Medieval folk did not have gel, and their fluffing methods were on the primitive side. Granted, I'm storing up hairs for aliens, so...

70s is good walking weather. 80s I'll seek out air conditioning. We usually spend about a week in the triple digits around here-- used to be we'd try to get to Disneyland on July 17th, for their birthday, but it's just so much nicer in May. (Once we went in December, just me and Mom. Bring a backpack. You'll take your jacket off and put it back on six times.)

For the aliens you can go all out! The more insane the more fun XD Medieval hairstyles are pretty rare, I guess, for sims. Although looking at those pages you linked when I was doing that crispinette, most of it was described as hats, the hairstyles underneath seemed largely the same (braids, basically, in a bun, down the back or in a net of some sort). For the men I actually have no idea what's historically appropriate, huh.

I wouldn't dream of taking my jacket off in December over here. Not that it gets as cold as it can get in certain places, but it is usually pretty damn chilly.

I am relearning how many hair meshes I really like have crispy crunchy textures, and how bad my version of Photoshop is at fixing that. Makes me make faces.

Aliens can have anything, it's a blast. Even Rose's purple black hair works on them!

Medieval hairstyles are tricky bastards-- I end up going for Medieval-ish, honestly. Unmarried girls could wear their hair down and loose, adult women always had their hair covered-- or 'covered' in some cases, in that there's a veil over it or a hat on it, and that counts as covered. Men's hairstyles varied; long hair could be braided and used as padding under a helmet, so that was done. Bowl cuts and bobs happened, as well as the close-cut hairstyles we like to call Roman (and they were, originally, but Romans did more than just the one look). I admit I yearn for a good peasant headcloth for women, because of how incredibly common it was, but mostly my rules are 'usually loose for the single ladies but especially for formalwear, always up for married ladies, no product for anybody, and men can wear anything that doesn't look totally wrong.' And of course my Sims of the Church are getting shaved heads. And OFB ninja outfits. Because that's nicely unisex and firmly gets across the idea that this world is only pretending to be our own. (Someday, probably before I finish with The Great Hair Project, I'm going to Pooklet all the beards.)

Winter in Anaheim is like Autumn in San Francisco-- if you don't bring a sweatshirt, you will buy a sweatshirt. Especially in California Adventure, where they have the man-made lake-- the sun goes down and the breeze sweeps across that water and even in July you go '... Goddamn, I don't want to pay fifty bucks for a sweatshirt, but... I might have to...'

Thanks for all the Pooklet'd hair! I definitely need some replacements in my Medieval hood! If you Pooklet the beards I will worship you forever! It's really exasperating to find reasonably matching facial hair! I was just in your area a couple of weeks ago! My mom and I drove down through the Redwoods down the coast to Tustin to visit my grandma. Unlike you I was hoping for warmer, seeing as I'm from Portland and like a little sunshine now and then!

Ooooh, the Redwoods make for a pretty drive. We went once when I was in junior high-- a camping trip, so as pretty as it was, I was kind of miserable. (My family does not camp well.) I'm glad you like the hairs, and I hope you saw the second post (it's the very next one after this) and I'm sure I'll get to what beards I have before too long-- I have a couple of smallish default sets in testing, and I should really put up the couple of hats I got done. If I ever manage to take pictures of them.

I'm having a problem with the male "Shorn" hair. The scalp for the black hair colors show up white, even on dark skintones. I poked through the texture files, but nothing looks wrong to me.

And they work in my game-- I just checked all ages. I suspect you may have another hair where 'skin' was checked while the creator was binning it. Do you get a white scalp showing on any other black hairs?

Okay, that's weird. I get the white scalp on all of the other black hairs, but it also shows up white with any other skintone I have... This is strange.

Yup. What happens is, there are categories you can check in the Color Binning Tool when you go to bin your hair that allow it to show up as available for everyday, formal, underwear, swimwear, materntiy, all that good stuff. I messed up a few of my own hairs by ticking the 'skin' box, thinking that meant naked. Underwear means naked, skin means 'stick this texture to the scalp for some reason!' and messes up every hair in that color for that age and gender.

I'm afraid you're stuck using the fifty-fifty method to figure out which hair is breaking things... At least you know it's a men's hair, that might give you a starting point.

That is indeed what it means. The Color Binning Tool is a harsh mistress.

No problem-- this has happened to me more than once, and it wasn't until I started recoloring hairs on my own that I discovered what causes it.

Would it be possible that a skin would cause the problem? Because I've tried every combination possible with my cc and the white scalp only appears when I toss my skintones in my downloads folder.

Oh wow! I hadn't seen that anyone'd made a decent buzz cut for TS2 yet! "Shorn" is awesome, very neatly done. :D And ofc it is of utmost important to have your shaved heads in as many different colors as possible. ;D

Broken Files

Dear Hat,
I have many of your wonderful 'Hair Dumps' in my game, and I always seem to come back for more I don't have... Lately I've been noticing some of your files don't download as DBPF packages, but simply as File. I'm not sure if it's happening somewhere between Mediafryer and my system or if there is something wrong with the packages in general. On this page in particular, it's happening with 'Shorn'. I hope things get resolved soon, I am in need of a shaved head!

... Well, Shorn (at least the female version) downloaded fine for me. I know computers can screw up if there are too many characters in the file path, starting from C/:-- how deep are you nesting the files? Are they showing as File instead of DBPF right there in the .zip? Where do you tell your computer to send downloaded files? And, most importantly, does it happen when you re-download a few hours later? Occasionally, stuff just gets corrupted during downloading.

If all else fails, Bec's How About a Shave? should still be available on GoS; it's the same alpha and textures, and if you don't need one of the brighter colors like Time Bomb or Primer or Comburent, it's REALLY hard to tell the difference between browns and reds and blacks.
