La Esmeralda (SAU MYOS F14 Pooklet'd)

2022 Notice: I am not changing the pics in this post to something less... what they are. 2010 Hat did not know a few things that turned out to be Unfortunate Ethnic Stereotypes, although somehow I did not use any ethnic slurs while thinking they were neutral things. I have grown! But a major edit of this post feels like trying to hide that I've grown, and that I was not always a person who could look at something like the clothes on the Sims in this post and go 'oh yikes.' So, yeah, some unfortunate portrayals of Roma/Romanii stereotypes below.
So I have always wanted supercurly hair in The Sims. Like, always. Stereotypical Irish step-dancer extreme 80s perm 'Wow is your hair naturally curly?' Bernadette Peters type spiral curls. Alas, the people who make 20,000 poly meshes never seem to want to go to that much trouble. MYOS 14 fakes it well-- the mesh is all flat panes, but it's the right shape for ludicrous curls, and I've always wanted to poke at the alpha to see if the weird, obviously flat pieces could be trimmed off the top and sides.
And they can!

Hurry, hurry, here's your chance!

Dance, La Esmeralda, dance!
Let's get one thing perfectly clear: I cannot retexture hair. I have Photoshop 6, and I am not a good enough pirate to figure out how to get any better version. I have no warp tool, and while Liquefy seemed to have potential, I quickly realized I was going to get nowhere fast with it. All I can do is recolor hair. These textures belong to Alkaloid over at Mod the Sims. And really, the colors belong to Pooklet. All I did was push buttons. Lots and lots of buttons.

And the mesh-- which is included-- works for all ages, and comes in all of Pooklet's new naturals, plus Time Bomb in the custom bin because you never know when you're going to want to scare a Sim so bad their hair turns white, right?
However, this is an older mesh, and it does have some... some flaws.

... Yeah. Yeah, like that. But extreme head-turning is usually over pretty quickly-- I wouldn't have noticed how funky things got if I weren't trying to take a picture of it.
MOST of the time, and from most angles, this mesh ain't half bad.
2022 Edit: See the end of the post for an updated mesh by Cynnix that does not do... that.
"But Hat," you say, "What do we get?"
You get this:

Yep, there's a homebrew gray in there (Time Bomb multiplied over Mail Bomb in Family Two, if you're like me and desperately needed another gray to make things nice and even). Colors are binned according to Pooklet's scheme, except I hate the weird random hair color changes that seem to happen when you leave the elders with adult hair colors, so. Elders get gray. Feel free to change that if it bugs you.
Hokay, so, specific policy real quick: NO PAYSITES. Alkaloid says no and these are her textures, Pooklet says no and these are her colors. I dunno what Sim Artists' Union says, they seem to have folded. Credit goes, naturally, to Pooklet, Alkaloid, and SAU. Thanks to Theo for the Color Binning Tool, and to Quaxi for SimPE, without which fixing tooltips would be a real pain in the butt. As ever I am ludicrously grateful to Lyn for making sure I have a working copy of Photoshop.
And this right here is exclusive to Dreamwidth! (Please forgive me if Photobucket dies. I have a week left until it refreshes itself, and apparently I've been popular for not having uploaded much this month.)
