Deer Season

... I really wish I had a better title, but. For a couple weeks there I was legit obsessed with this project. So.
For Reasons, I need to be able to make a Sim into an eldritch forest god. With antlers and one eye. Luckily, Midgethetree took Danie's Simsational bottom-only conversion of Savant Inamorata's satyr mesh, added morphs, and age and gender converted the thing, and then Simborg fixed a weird shadow issue carried through from the Savant Inamorata original, and now I I have... far too many cervid pants, really.

So here's what's available:

Check that out, it's a whole subspecies of nonsense! Deer pants (well, the toddler "pants" are full-body) for toddlers through elders, both genders, all categories, BINX-edited, with morphs, two texture options, and 20 color options per texture. Plus accessories, but we'll get there.
Alas, no infant meshes-- but if someone made them, I'd recolor them.
Aside from the full-body toddlers (poor chilly fawns), these require some kind of shirts to work; nude meshes are great, Maxis waistlines work with Androgyny or Bloom's cleavage and some of Warlokk's bodyshape tops, and of course there are Digi's wonderful Castaway Stories separates as seen on the ladies above.
But if you're like me and you're running a themed game, what do you do?

The thighs on these are actually very cooperative! Those were all the top-only tunic meshes I had in my game (for men) at the time of picture-taking, and-- at least in Body Shop-- there's no clipping or anything.

And as for the does... Skell's boho tunic runs into a little trouble, but everything else worked out really cute. (It is, yes, an absolute travesty that I have more female top-only tunics than male ones. Never mind that a lot of them are gender conversions.)

This is important on normal, old-fashioned tops-- the alpha of the fur on the pants does fall just below the meshed waistline, but if you have untuckable tops, your Sims will be tucking them into their fur. Not ideal! But a lot of people are using Noblend these days (which is great for a lot of applications and awfully frustrating when I'm trying to get cute layering overlap), so... try things on your deer people and see what looks good and what looks hilarious.

There are two fur textures, smooth on him and shaggy on her. I have a friend who's a furry who knows more about deer than I do who advised me on the textures, and I... couldn't decide, so you can use one or both or use the shaggy ones to simulate a winter coat, I dunno. I feel like the smooth, on Sims, looks more definitely deer-like, but...
I shied away from putting any really realistic shading on these. I gave it a shot! I did give it a shot. Unfortunately the white areas looked... a little obscene. I have left my Sims with their dignity.
Well, as much as they get, being Sims.

They bend pretty well in game-- there's some weirdness about the knees (you can see them slightly deflated here) and ankles sometimes, but this is an update to a very old mesh and the bone assignments are what they are. Still, it's not bad for a whole bottom-only bodyshape.

Then, of course, I needed some antlers. Because, as I've been told, it's hard to tell it's a deer person without antlers, never mind that does don't usually grow them and bucks shed them once a year.
I knew of two antler meshes out there, and you're seeing both worn at once.

A better view.
The largest pair, worn towards the back, is Katu's Bones, Branches, and Boughs, which I had to download via the Wayback Machine. Simborg was kind enough to fix some shadow issues on them for me, and I "handpainted" (Add Noise, Reduce Color Noise, Motion Blur, and then Warp warp warped) the base textures of these my own self before applying both Pooklet's Project Mayhem naturals and, because that didn't feel like enough variation, Aelia's Eco actions onto them.
They're available for Young Adults, Adults, and Elders only, but both genders, because maybe you want trans deer or fantasy does with antlers or to pair 'em with other accessories and make weird headdresses for reasons.
The smaller pair of antlers, situated a bit more forward on the head, is Trapping's "reindeer horns" antlers, which are pulled off of a Maxis wallhanging and applied directly to the Sim head. On these, I increased the texture size a bit and generally hammered on it until I had something that was both a decent Volatile base and not a pixelated mess, and away I went, doing the same Pooklet Project Mayhem natural and Aelia Eco colors I slapped on Katu's antlers.
The Trapping variation is available for PU-EU, so that's nice!
My dude is wearing both sets of antlers in Aelia Eco Antique. You don't have to tangle them up together, but it amused me to do so.

But the butts were so bare! Especially since these are technically 'pantsless' bottoms and they do not have the booty.
I found a fantastic accessory by Crab of Doom, sawed off of Eva's deco hares, that added bunny ears and a pointy sort of tail to just the right spot. A little tweaking and the ears were alpha-editable, but Crab didn't remap the hares, just cut away the bits he didn't need and resized what he wanted. Which was great for Crab, but left me with an absolutely massive UV map mostly covered by unused hare... hair.
No matter how I dug around the depths of Sims 2's early flirtations with furries, I could not find a better-shaped tail for deer than Crab's.
Magical Girl Sandbox super-graciously came to my rescue and whacked that pointy little tail right out of there for me. Which let me use a good resolution of my fur textures on a nice reasonably-sized 512x512 image, instead of shrinky-dinking the fur onto a tiny ~100px-wide strip of a 1024x1024 image. Praise be unto MGSB in all things!

And look at that, you can just see the tail in the pie menu!
Anyway, these are available in all 20 Pooklet Project Mayhem naturals, textured to match the pants as closely as possible, with either shaded undersides (I just lightened the textures) or contrasting (where I tried to find the best white or gray to pair with them). Which means there are eighty tail options, because smooth, shaggy, contrast, and shaded. Check out the swatches below for more detail.

So if you got this far and you're going "... It's a neat idea, but..." then I have good news for you! A resource pack is available, including Volatile and Time Bomb bases for my finished textures (in case you like what I did but need different/more colors), the original stock images, the tiled-and-rescaled versions I used as bases, and the shading I applied to the fur, in case you wanna really reinvent the wheel, my hoof textures as overlays in case you only like my handpainted hooves and think you can do better on the fur (and if you can, I salute you and please link me to your project when you're done!), even bases for the tails and antlers.
You need these in neons, go for it. Someone else's hairtones, do it. Think you can figure out how to make fawn spots look good, or white underbellies look less like weird underwear than I could? Do it and link me to those, too. Want to do other bodyshapes and texture-reference them to these textures? ... That, I cannot help you with today. Maybe someday, but not today.

And once again it is entirely likely I've messed up a link or seven somewhere (I like big sets and I cannot lie, but I'm only passable at HTML), so please, let me know and I'll fix it-- but in case I don't fix it fast, the Sims File Share folder for everything is here, if you can't download something you want, check there first.
Behold the Tip Jar!
In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare.
