WOOOOO Guys I get to start sharing Buy Mode Blitz now!
What's Buy Mode Blitz? I'm thrilled you asked.
Buy Mode Blitz is something I've been whittling away at for, uh, like, five or six years now? The idea is, I have all these great meshes in my game and either they don't have nearly enough recolors to do them justice or the recolors they do have don't really coordinate with... anything else.
Buy Mode Blitz is intended to fix that.
How many colors is each thing in Buy Mode Blitz going to get? I have no idea. Some stuff I've only done one recolor for, sometimes only three, sometimes eight, sometimes 20, sometimes 40, 60, 82, 85, 164, 172, I dunno, it varies wildly.
Sims Design Avenue's Medieval Castle Kitchen was not the first item on my list... but it's the first I'm releasing and I'll tell you why after the cut.

I'm so excited to share this, I'm not even looking up a quote about kitchens.
So when I started off recoloring for Buy Mode Blitz, if I wasn't happy with the textures, I'd grab Piggi's Wood 03 and fiddle with hue and sat and the original textures if they had cool carvings or something until I had something I liked. This lasted until the SDA Castle Kitchen, when I blended those original wood textures with Piggi 03 and now... well, now, that's the Buy Mode Blitz go-to combination.

That's all the meshes involved in Molotov:
Fridge (garde-manger), trash compactor, emptied fridge (a Dicreasy edit), counter, coffee table, bench (it's modular!), and three-tile dining table. The fridge is the... uh, how are we saying it now? The fridge is the referenced texture; all other meshes rely on that one.

I do not remember which Pooklet colors these all are, but. Pooklet colors! On the fridge, the out-of-period chicken wire is replaced with Wood For Sims Fisherman set netting. The fridge has two subsets, the fridge itself and the contents. The countertop has two subsets, top (a unique subset that stands alone) and cabinet, and the trash compactor has the basket (unique!) and the legs.

Also included is my edit of Darkmoon's edit of Dicreasy's texture-referenced and emptied clone of the SDA Castle Fridge; Dicreasy's change was to make the contents of the fridge disappear and reference the original, Darkmoon's edit was adding slots (be advised that it's next to impossible to get anything OUT of a slotted fridge; you may want to use OMSPs anyway), and my edit was shoving Hysterical Paroxysm's placeholder object in where the fridge contents are supposed to be, taking the polycount from over 18,000 to just under 2,400.
So yeah, while the SDA fridge is the referenced file, I heartily encourage you to use the edited version in actual gameplay. The contents of the original fridge have not been retextured or recolored.

All wood surfaces have been recolored with 20 Pooklet Project Mayhem naturals:
1a Pipe Bomb, 1b Dynamite, 1c Depth Charge, 1d Incendiary, 1e Explosive;
2a Smoke Bomb, 2b Depth Charge, 2c Safety Fuse, 2d Volatile, 2e Pyrotechnic;
3a Mail Bomb, 3b Land Mine, 3c Fission, 3d Grenade, 3e Comburent;
4a Time Bomb, 4b Flash Powder, 4c Brisance, 4d Primer, 4e Molotov

The trash compactor baskets have been retextured with seven Sun & Moon Basket Weaving Station basket textures, which I have put in near reverse order, so, left to right, top to bottom:
1. Volatile Wicker
7. Cane
6. Looks Scratchy
5. Flat Braided
4. Tight Braided
3. Soft Braided
2. Streaky
(Grab Ladymiriam's invisible recolor of the Free Time fridge here because it provides an option to make the legs of the trash compactor disappear if you can't find a color that works for you.)

Poly counts for everything, because after that fridge it seemed worth it to check:
Banc/Bench: 1,118 (less when connected to another segment)
Compacteur/Trash Compactor: 624
Counter: 1,606
Garde-Manger/Fridge: 18,376
Edited Fridge: 2,367
Table Basse/Coffee Table: 2,718
Table: 1,794
So while most objects are over the 'less than 1k polys per tile' rule for being LOW poly, they're not actually what I'd consider HIGH poly. The original fridge just has some very flawlessly round dishes and casseroles in there.

One reason I really love this set is legit because of the table and benches.
See, kitchen and dining chairs weren't a huge thing in the Middle Ages; they were kind of a waste of space. Your dining hall was your great hall, which was also a meeting room, a ballroom, a throne room... you didn't leave the dining setup there all the time, the tables were boards on trestles-- and so were the chairs! Which were not chairs but long benches (because with long benches, you don't need to worry about how many seats you have. Extra guests? Everybody budge up). When the meal was over, you took the boards off the trestles and tucked them up against the wall, freeing up the floor for music or dancing.
(Side note, this may well be part of the origin of 'keep your elbows off the table while you eat' as an etiquette rule. If you put your elbows on a trestle table and rested your weight on them? The whole table was going to tip into your lap, and the laps of your fellow diners.)

I legitimately do not know why there's a coffee table in the kitchen set, but there is.

And there's some kind of TXMT difference between the trash compactor and everything else. I did try to fix it, but I didn't accomplish anything; it's not noticeable unless your trash compactor is right up against one of the other pieces, though.
So! That's what I did to the SDA Castle Kitchen, with a lot of help from Darkmoon and an edit by Dicreasy.

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.

Welcome Back!!
Date: 2021-01-10 10:29 pm (UTC)I noticed the Kitchen Sink isn't included... I don't suppose you might consider doing it in the same stones/marbles from the Bathroom Set?
Thank You for the "Back From Lurking" Gift,
