Yep, we're thinking of the same thing, and 'tis true that it was pretty scary shit until relatively recently (honestly, why did anyone bother?!) - actually, some of us still find the idea to be scary shit, even with all mod cons! I've been reading a couple of books lately, one a biography of Elizabeth I and another basically on 'who are the British and where do they come from' (yes, I read history books for fun), which revealed the frightening statistic that the death rate for women between the ages of 17 and 25 (i.e. prime childbearing years) during the Middle Ages was up to 44% - gulp!

Anyway, enough rambling, I'm off to indulge in more downloading! :D
