HAIR DUMP IX: IT CAME FROM BEYOND THE HAIR DUMP, PART TWO

2022 Imgur Update: Some hairs do not have all-color swatches shown, only turnarounds, because for some reason Imgur does not want to keep four specific images online. I do not know what is happening or why. Swatches ARE included in the download files.

Behind the cut lurk twenty-six hairs for your downloading pleasure. Because I have a massive hair dump for you guys tonight, I decided to divide by the sort of Sim I took pictures of. This is the Normal Male post, and all the pictures are of Tanner. Even when he looks kind of stupid in a particular hair.

Since there are a zillion downloads inside the cut, the boilerplate goes outside the cut, so...

NO PAYSITES. Mesh creators' policies may vary, my policy says I want a cut (like that would ever happen), but Pooklet says no and these are Pooklet's actions. So no paysites.

PRAISE BE UNTO: Melodie9, DJMur3, Jessy, Newsea, SAU MYOS, Lidiqnata, 8K Sims, Helga, Marko, and Trapping for meshes, Nouk and Aquilegia for meshes AND textures, Ja for that curved bit I use on so many things, Lyn for making sure I had a working copy of Photoshop, Pooklet for making sure Project Mayhem worked with my copy of Photoshop (and for their textures), my lovely donors who make sure I can keep my photos online (which lets me post hair dumps at all), and you lot for your comments and support (and I totally consider racking up downloads to be support).

HEY LISTEN! Meshes are included unless otherwise noted. Swatches are included in the zip files, everything is compressorized. Poly counts may vary; I've started adding poly counts to the dump info (but I always manage to look at the poly count AFTER recoloring the hair). Elders go gray, but you also get Time Bomb in the custom bin, just in case Primer isn't platinum enough for you. All female hairs are maternity-wear enabled from teen and up, and all male hairs from YA and up, to stop the weird hair disappearing act that happens if you don't have a Pregnant Sims Wear Any Outfit hack (but why wouldn't you?).

ANNOYING THINGS I DO: Because I credit everybody in them, my folder and file names are stupidly long. Feel free to shorten one, the other, or both as you please-- better you edit them to suit your needs than I just name everything [COLOR NAME] and cheese everybody off, right? Also, each hair color has an elder gray attached instead of only black. Feel free to re-bin everything and cut out the extra grays, or only use one family but swap out textures so your elders have some variety, whatever. Likewise, I bin using Pooklet's original scheme, because it's a nice easy default. I totally do not care if you re-bin things to suit your own tastes (but hey, every hair has a gray attached in case you need it!), and neither does Pooklet, so do whatever makes you happy, binning-wise.

Wanna help me feed my cats?

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.

Yes, if you want to do the unnaturals, please feel free to do the unnaturals. I have no plans to do so. Just remember to credit properly-- I tend to use Nouk's waves, FR's braid, and a chunk of curve I stole off Ja's Uni ponytail default, but anyone I credit, you should credit.

I tweaked this one-- I darkened the alpha, so you can't see as much skin, and lightened the bump map-- which was originally just a copy of the alpha. But that's all I did to it besides throw Pooklet's actions on it. The title is... half Maxis, half Eddie Izzard. There's a statue called the Action Cherub. That and Izzard's "Je suis un travesti executif-- un travesti l'action," kept chasing each other around my head while I was trying to come up with a name for this hair.

This was that one ponytail from the basegame that was close-cut along the sides and back (Aquilegia's default replacement used a shaved alpha), but I said to myself, I said, "If I could manage to turn that into just a short, high ponytail..." The texture isn't perfect, because of how the mesh is shaped, but-- it looks like just kind of scooping the hair up off the neck. Works for me.

If you have any other replacements for the mullet/DJ hair, you'll have to choose between this and them. (Bonus to this one, though-- it works with the texture-referencing Castaway Stories hats from MATY.) DEFAULT REPLACEMENT, and then recolors of same. Choose wisely.

Well, hey, as long as you're happy, right? (And you can cut the size in almost-half by removing elder grays from all but one package in a family. I leave them attached to everything so people can customize their binning and families as they see fit, but in my own downloads folder, gray sticks to black.) You're very welcome! I knew as soon as Aquilegia did the base game defaults that I wanted to Pooklet the bald and nearly bald hairs. Sure, the shiny cue-ball look is attractive, but some men make a receding hairline look distinguished. And sometimes it just happens to guys and there's not much they can do about it.

I keep having Mediafire issues with "He Plays a Violin". I REALLY love that hair and it would go perfectly with my "Colonial Williamsburg Project". All the other downloads work fine. It's weird. It's just this one that won't let me download it. I keep getting the "Oops!" error. It'll refresh itself on its own and start again. Then it would have that "Oops!" error again. It's a repeating, continuing cycle. :/ I must have this hair. :3 It's perfect! lol

I know it's been 4 years since you uploaded these but... I can't find the hair in the game. I download "The Great Thinker", colour Dynamite, put in the Mods/Packages folder, and I can't see it... I also tried in accessories, thiking it was maybe just a mesh but I can't find it there either... Do you need a particular expansion pack in order to find your hairs? They look wonderful and I really wish I could use them! Thanks!

I don't mind that it's been a few years! If there's a problem, I want people to let me know when they have it.

First question-- are you playing Sims 2? Because I don't recognize 'Mods/Packages' as a folder. It should go in Downloads (or SavedSims, SavedSims will also work). If you're not playing Sims 2, I'm afraid I can't help you. All the content on this blog is for Sims 2 and I don't know jack about Sims 3 or 4.

If you ARE playing Sims 2 and just talking about how you sort your downloads folder, then I can promise you for Great Thinker, you do not need a mesh. It's a basegame hair, you've already got the mesh. My standard troubleshooting questions are as follows:

Did you try deleting your cache files? Those'll be the two or three loose files (not folders) that show up in your My Documents/EA Games/Sims 2 folder when you start either the game or Body Shop. Deleting them when you add or remove content is always a good idea.
Do you have any standard-method mesh defaults for amhairpeak? That could be messing things up.
Have you tried shortening the filenames? A Windows computer can only read 250 characters starting from C:/ and ending with the file extension, so sometimes shortening a filepath helps.
Also, I don't remember if this hair dump is from before I learned about Special Characters or after; the game takes longer to read anything that isn't 0-9, A-Z, -, or _, so eliminating spaces and brackets not only shortens the filepath but makes your game load faster.
Have you tried re-downloading the file? Sometimes things corrupt somewhere during the download process, it's just a Thing that Happens and re-downloading usually fixes it.

It was my fault, I thought this was for The Sims 3.
I came here through Google, and in this page not once is mentioned "the sims 2", and I just assumed it was stuff for TS3.

You know, I had a sneaking suspicion that was the problem. It's happened once or twice before, but I admit I don't usually think 'what if someone mistook this for Sims 3?' Thank you and you're welcome! I'm glad you like them. A lot of the Maxis hairs are nice shapes with either terrible mapping or dated textures. Magpie (used to be Aquilegia) deserves a huge thank-you for a lot of the basegame textures, that's where I got the default replacements for them.

"It's Always Like That" toddler age doesn't show up, it just displays the toddler afro from the base game in bodyshop, and an empty back of the head in game. I have the mesh in, it just doesn't appear the toddler textures are actually linked to the mesh.

I'll have a look at it and see what's going on; I don't use that hair personally so never noticed an issue. I'll probably post an updated 'redux' version in my next hair dump unless it's a simple fix like 'whoops I uploaded the wrong mesh.'

EDIT: Actually, quick question, since this is a Melodie9 hair, do you have BOTH mesh files in? MESH_Melodie9shortspikeyboy[Edited] and MESH_Melodie9shortspikeybaby[Edited]? You need both installed for the hair to work the way it should.

I have the same issue as anonymous, and I think I figured out why: 'shortspikeybaby' and 'shortspikeyboy' are not the meshes for Shortcenterspike, 'wakingbaby' is the mesh name for the toddler conversion of Shortcenterspike (a hair which already has child stage by default).
