I got bit by a project bug and can't make a decision
I want to make a double apron (also called a midwife's apron). But I am conflicted! See, I just completed some top-only kirtles to be worn with bottom-only gowns (well. Nearly completed, I need to replace textures with fresh pngs Body Shop hasn't eaten, and slave ages together) and I'm torn.
Floor-length bottom-only aprons in this style (that won't really be compatible with the top-only shifts and placket shifts I've made, but like Sims in horrifying separates combos is new or unusual) on Cynnix's bottom-only trained gown...
OR
Mid-calf full-body-outfit aprons in this style on I'm not sure what mesh-- the Frigg dress,] maybe, I've got a child conversion for that (and it would work just as well for a floor-length apron), or the old Dark Project layered dress, which has good skirt dimension but I hate the sleeves. (Not a fan of the tight top but that's an issue with separates, too.)
Pros for a bottom-only apron, I'd only feel like I had to do eight linen colors (... maybe also dirty/bloody recolors. It's a midwife's apron). Cons, the skirt mesh I like for that big massive apron has Maxis heeled shoes. (Potential solutions, use a different skirt, or work out how to make a heeled mesh look like wooden pattens.)
Pros for a full-outfit apron, I can guarantee a loose-fitting torso on the Frigg dress, and show more color of the dress underneath since I don't have to go all the way to the hem, whether or not I use the layered dress. Also, could make for interesting maid/Uni cook/BV housekeeper defaults. Cons, I'd feel like I had to do all 82 colors I work with to go under the linen; also there are those sleeves on the layered dress.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)First comment here, even if I'm quite the fan...
(Just discovered I didn't have to register...)
Alright, let's see !
I love the "bottom apron", and the idea of being able to chose the top according to the rank of sims... but I just CAN'T imagine them in heels, except if you can disguise them in "sabots" (Internet translates by clogs apparently...) 'cause I know in some countries those have heels...
I'm less a fan of the "full-body apron", but hey, it's also very nice ! A full-outfit would prevent mismatch townies, after all...
You don't really have to do all the colors if you don't want to, it's really your choice.
There, my own humble opinion.
Humble, because I'm no modder, and I don't know the first thing about creating clothes.
(And I'm really not ready for that, if I believe some conversations at the Keep !)
Anyway, I hope I helped you.
See ya !
Solaya.

The thing I'd do with a high-heeled mesh is try to make them look like pattens (scroll down a bit), but between basegame-mapped shoes and the fact that walking heels aren't actually shaped like pattens, that could go either way. (On the other hand, under that Cynnix skirt, you can't really SEE the shoes.)
But thank you for your feedback! I'm glad I wouldn't be the only person using a midwife's apron.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-15 12:59 am (UTC)(link)If you like I could do mesh shaped for this apron.
Bottom only mesh, apron as a alpha-editable layer to go over top only meshes and make apron size more authentic
Plus shoes of your choice - Does it sound suitable to you?
PS:
I've admired your hair retextures and i want to give something back

... I'd end up using that mesh a lot, I think.
Do you need any input from me besides shoes (FantasyRogue's poulaines, please!) and suggestions on meshes to plunder and/or look at for the overall shape?
(If you like my hairs, keep an eye out for my GoS Blind Date gift.)

(Anonymous) 2015-02-19 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)those surcote give me even better picture of mesh shape
Is there any specific dress meshes You like to use with this mesh - so I can test in-game
I just like to know - would You like different body shapes?
Morphs too - right?
If You don't mind -can I have a link for the shoes please?
PS: I also have an account on MTS and LeeFish - if this makes communication easier

As for dress meshes, do you mean tops that would work with the skirt? If so, the only top-only separate I have for women I'd use is this untuckable one by Cynnix, although she's also done a loose top in this set that I keep thinking I should do something with someday. (I've also got a rucked skirt top, but that will not work for these purposes.)
If you mean you want examples as to how I the overdress should hang or the skirt should be shaped, the shape of Cynnix's bottom-only trained gown (in that same link with the loose top) would work really well as a skirt shape, and the alpha-editable part basically needs to hang smoothly down from the bust and shoulderblades, similarly to the Frigg gown or Mio's Italian Renaissance gown (which is too snug under the breasts, but the back falls beautifully. It's also got a skirt shape I'd be happy with).
Yes to morphs, please! If you want to make it for other bodyshapes, I'd be delighted (I use Androgyny, Athletic Girl, and RenGal V2, you can find some meshes for them in my tags in the sidebar), but as I don't have any separate tops for them, a Teen conversion with morphs would probably be more practical. (I'll recolor the HELL out of it, whatever ages and shapes you make it for.)
And you can find he shoes here on men or here on women, but not much actual leg shows on the ladies.
I'm okay continuing to talk here if you are! I don't know if this conversation would break any rules at MTS, and I don't have an account at LeeFish. I'd love to know your handle, though! (I know Dreamwidth accepts OpenID logins, but I can't remember which other blogging sites that works with, besides LiveJournal and Wordpress.)

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 06:03 am (UTC)(link)Would You like to have bump/normal map capacity
Do You prefer ts2(everything separate on uv map) or ts3(front and back sides are connected by one edge) style mapping
quick image:
I have no further question for now
no subject
Bump maps are awesome if you're willing to add them, and I prefer TS2 mapping. Every time I've tried to recolor something extracted from TS3, I've gotten angry at it.

The only real feedback I have is stuff that you may already have planned to tweak-- the hem seems to abruptly tuck in rather than falling naturally to the floor, and it's hard to tell, but the... upper chest area (neck, shoulders, decollete) looks like it might be a little high up off the body underneath. I know it can't be right up against the 'skin,' but I'm a little worried apron strings and shoulder straps would noticeably hover, as-is.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-21 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)bottom skirt is part of the mesh - so you could add skirt texture to the top mesh and it shows on skirt
I did tweak it
it now sits closer to the body(i'll see maybe i can move it a little more) and hem issue was caused by bad normals
Still have to tweak some clipping tho
I have some in game pics : http://s102.photobucket.com/user/Oeselian/library/Alpha%20overlay%20Mesh?sort=3&page=1

This is VERY exciting, I can't wait!
no subject
only one that wasn't compatible was fancy sleeve one
also i did add UV map image to the album - does it looks ok?
i also moved vertices closer to the body around chest
if thats okay, all is left to do is to add morphs and conversions
can't do screenshots right now - greenshot is throwing tantrums
EDIT: added some in-game pics

It looks great! I'm impressed it looks so good doing the Meditate animation, that is not a skirt-friendly animation right there. I can't wait to start messing with it. Thank you so much for doing this, and so fast!
no subject
It can be removed now
I could give You a tryout mesh(no morphs for now)+recolour template
(second option is vital) and just to know that it works in your game too
beside i could possibly not detect all animation glitches
If mesh is good all around i'll add morphs and teen conversion

I tried to add morphs too but my Milkshape doesn't like them for some reason
so i couldn't add them but don't worry i give them a second try
By the way thanks for subscribing!

Regardless of the mesh,is it good enough?
I'd like to upload it officially

So far I've only just started testing, and checked out the fat morph in CAS, but I did notice a problem while the Sim walks. There's kind of a lot of clipping with each step, front and back, which would be an issue if there's a contrasting skirt under the alpha layer.
Looks good jumping on a sofa, climbing stairs, being attacked by a spellbook, or playing with a toddler, though! There's no clipping at all that I could spot on the stairs, which is pretty impressive.

Will work on it(hmm, narrower lower skirt a little bit)

I solved clipping issues so it's matter of time getting good working mesh, well if you still want it after all that fuss
no subject
I do indeed still want the mesh if you're still willing to share! I have plans for that mesh, yes I do.

There one spot i can't fix tho

Lower skirt pokes through when relaxing on bed
Is that a major issue?I didn't detect any other clipping

Just need to do fast in-game test
EDIT:DONE
Let me know if something is still amiss

Took me ages to find things in Body Shop, because of course I fired it up when I was tired and scoured my entire Casual categories... before remembering the important part: this is a separate bottom, not a full-body outfit.
Thank you so, so much for all this!
EDIT: Okay, so I finally got in-game again, and while the clipping while walking is gone on AF (still need to make a teenager walk around, I did notice some weird flickering. here and here. Front and back, both ages, right at the crotch. I don't know what could be causing that. That and a little bit of TF clipping around the collarbones seem to be the only issues!
I'm so sorry this idea is being such a bear.
EDIT 2: TF clipping at the ankles here (sorry for the weird photo quality, it's nighttime in that house so I had to crank up the brightness in Photoshop). Not as bad as the original AF clipping, but it does seem to be in similar places.
no subject
I didn't notice before- this mesh is on 17. place in your wishlist
I notice something annoying-teen top mesh has differently sized breasts across the morphs(generally preg and normal morphs have same sized beasts)and this cause hell of a clipping mess with fat+preg morphs plus floating with normal preg morphs. The solution would be fixing the top but it's not my mesh.Hope creator won't mind if i include fixed mesh .
And only "one of those" animations is relaxing on bed - gives you some clipping
Although i managed to fix teen ankle and collarbone clipping
no subject
About the pregmorph breasts, I'm pretty sure Cynnix based her morphs on an untuckable top by I want to say M, who based it on the default meshes in InTeen-- it might be simpler to adjust the bottom to fit the top than adjust one top and hope nobody ever uses any of the other ones. I can see if I still have the original TF untuckable top around somewhere, it doesn't have any sleeves, just smooth arms. (I should have it, I never throw anything out.)
Relaxing on the bed in a big skirt always makes for some clipping. The ankle and collarbone clipping is much more important.
