Just a Little Growth (A Plantsim Default) (Also, Image Heavy)
This one took me a while.
So I LOVE plantsims. Like, a lot. But I've never really, really liked any of the plantsim SKINS that have been available-- they don't look like plant-people to me, usually. Too green, too even, too deliberately decorated-looking, not natural enough. Not like something that changes you and seeps out over your skin and makes you into something else.
However, there's one skin that has ALWAYS looked like plant-people to me, and I wish I had more occasion to use it-- and that's the I Am A Tree skintone by Chibi Sylph right here, at Parsimonious. It looks wonderfully dryad-like, with details that look like they could actually have GROWN there. I love it to pieces.
I could've done the smart thing and just slapped the Tree textures into a Plantsim default and called it good. But I? Am more ambitious than I am smart. I said to myself, I said, "How hard could it be to erase everything that wasn't bark and leaves, so a Sim's original skintone shows through?"
How hard indeed. Photoshop kicked my ass on this one. Let this be a lesson to you-- ALWAYS find a UV map. Even if you don't think you need one. It's probably not the limb you think is screwing you up that's actually screwing you up.
I've rambled enough!

It's just a little growth.

Yes, there is a unique toddler skin. Yay for plantbabies! Pistil (the momma) is wearing PEAU, but I have no idea what skintone Bud has... but you can tell it wasn't meant for sexy feet. That seam is on HIS skintone, not mine. The joys of geneticized skins.

I'm not sure how much I like the toddler skin, honestly, but this is less a case of 'yay, it's finished!' than 'I am DONE with this now.'

Still a bit of seaming on the legs, but I think that's in the bark textures, not my edits. I tried to keep the fade nice and even.

Works on a WIDE range of skintones-- the plantsims in these photos are wearing three shades of RenSim's PEAU, one shade of Pooklet's Compulsion (the guy with jump rope, here. He wanted pie, now he has to work it off), Bloom's Bigger Rounder Pregnancy Belly Dark, which is the darkest dark skintone I have ever found, and...

... the palest skintone in my collection that still looks human, a Mousyblue skin with Allen ABQ's hairy chest overlay (on the men, at least) by JMT Mom... and that is a MOUTHFUL. I still really like how it looks, though. Elm has this nymph-statue thing going on.

This is the only skintone I find iffy out of my testers... but it's, um, grown on me the more I played with him. Maybe it just suits Thorn, but for the record-- if you use a lot of ruddy or orangy-toned skins, you may not be delighted with this default.

The good ones are either gay or taken. Or both. Although why Manzanita wants him to call her, I have no idea.

Stamen is the one that got her in that condition.

I just like to make them run around nearly naked.

They don't mind it, either. (Also, nice shot of a male back. Oak is quite the looker-- I have no idea how I didn't get more pics of him, since he kept making sexyfaces at the camera. Perhaps he makes for a poor example.)
Okay, more textdumping.
These are DEFAULT REPLACEMENTS. That means, like Immortals, there can be only one. Make sure you remove any other plantsim defaults you may have in your downloads folder before installing this one. And since these are plantsim default replacements, SEASONS is indeed required. (If you just want the spiffy leaves, go download I Am A Tree. It's awesome.)
These have been compressorized. They are also Sexy-Feet compatible (to a degree-- there's some seaming, but there's some seaming on Maxis feet in the same area, and I finally just said "It's good enough! Screw it!" Men's feet look better than women's, in my opinion), but still look fine with Maxis block feet. If you use Marvine's feet, you're on your own-- I've never seen them OR their UV map.
Technically, these are barbie... but only as much as your Sims are barbie. Breasts and crotches are not covered by bark or leaves, so if you have hair or details in those areas, you won't lose them to plantsimism.
Toddlers are unisex, adult males and females have unique textures on their bodies AND faces, elders use the adult textures. Wilt states have unique coloring, too. (It came out that way by accident at first and I liked it so much I kept it.)
YES, there IS a wilt state included. No, I don't have any pics, because no matter what I did I couldn't get my plantsims to wilt... not even dragging their needs down into the red. (They hate that.) I think this may be due to the No Leafy Plantsim Hair hack, but I have no idea. Kate tested it and found the wilt state good, so... I dunno. It doesn't bother me as much as it should for my own game, because I'm pretty kind to my plantsims.
Even when I make them live outside.
CREDIT must go to Chibi Sylph, for making such a great skintone for me to cut up, erase, fade, and abuse, to Kate at Parsimonious for giving me permission to share these, and to Enayla, because Kate said to credit her. (Because Parsimonious uses her skins as bases, actually.)
THANKS must go to Aquilegia and a totally different Kate at Garden of Shadows, who provided advice, feedback, testing, and constructive criticism. Thus, they rock. (Quaxi rocks, too, because without SimPE we'd all be stuck with Maxis defaults.)
If you're wondering where I got all my cool nature-y stuff, um. Lots of places! Objects in photosare larger than they appear are mostly extracted Castaway Stories stuff from MATY. I know there's a rowan tree by Numenor in a few backgrounds, and if you don't already have Marvine's waterfall shower, hie thee hence to MTS and download that puppy. It's ridiculously beautiful. And it comes with rocks! Everybody needs rocks.
Hair is mostly from Garden of Shadows, I think, except for Bud the Plantbaby, who wound up with funky Maxis hair... and hairdos at all are made possible by Poifectly Poiple's No More Leafy Plantsim Hair hack at Mod the Sims. Nobody is wearing any makeup. Leafy bikinis are by Astiees and came with her Naturally Idealized skins over on MTS, which I heartily recommend cos they're pretty, Elm's CS-with-sexy-feet loincloth thingy is by Bloom, which I think I found at InsimAdult. Plantsim-looking shorts are by Kittylynn74 at MTS. She also has a bikini that I like a lot, but it covered up the underbust detail.
This time, I did not and probably won't upload my PSDs, mostly because I have SO MANY of them due to multiple trial-and-error sessions.
If you want to repost this somewhere, please credit me (normally I don't care much but this ate almost a week of my brain), Chibi Sylphe, and Enayla, and link to Parsimonious, kay? No paysites, donation files, TSR, or The Exchange, because there are too many cooks stirring this soup and I'm sure at least ONE of those is against SOMEBODY's policies.

Oh, put that shocked look away, I didn't forget.

Wanna help me feed my cats?
In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.

I don't think uploading this lot would be a good idea. It's on a hideous slope due to the part of the Riverblossom Hills map where I plopped it, and the stairsteps I had to level out to make any kind of reasonable 'stand there and do something photogenic' areas make the whole lot exceedingly awkward for actual gameplay. I keep getting traffic jams. On top of that, I used custom modular stairs from Castaway Stories all OVER that lot, because of the steep slope, and those have to be kind of delicately installed.
Really, though, just using Marvine's waterfall shower and a whole mess of redder-toned plants and Castaway Stories items will get you a lot with a very similar feel. I was almost completely random in where I put stuff.

Think of Plantsimism as... an infection, or a rash. It's something that happens to you, and it's a condition you can be 'born' with, but it's curable. Any plantsim skin you see is just an overlay; underneath it, the Sims have normal genetics, so Ideal Plantsims need normal genetics, too. If you've ever seen a semi-transparent or red-eyes-only vampire default, or fur-less werewolves, it's the same thing.
The only life states in Sims 2 that aren't just overlays are aliens, Servos (although that's actually kind of a very special overlay), and Bigfoot. These are, not coincidentally, the only incurable life states.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-07 05:04 am (UTC)(link)I only play with Pleasantview so save time loading, so I have a caste of Upper Class (Goth, Pleasant, Dreamer, Broke, etc.), Normal Sims (Burb, Gavigan, Newton, most CAS families) and Weirdos (Supernaturals and other oddities) and castes can't intermarry or their household become Black Sheep of their branch, its own caste. I had never done much with Plantsims even though my Weirdos often garden a lot because the skin was so unappealing and the lack of hair choice sucked a lot of creativity out of it. Thanks to you, I think I may finally learn to love Plantsims. Also this light mod I can't recommend enough; 2,000 simoleons my butt! http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=376976

You might also like this mod by Monique that makes EVERY light function as a sun lamp. I admit I don't know if that includes custom lamps, because I prefer to play it 'naturally' when I'm not just testing things.

I just think that other people not always want to have defaults in their games, but your tree thing is amazing. So I feel like it would be so usefull for many

I think so? I used a skin from Parsimonious (that I don't know if it's still on the site or not) as a base, so definitely check their policy too?
