Drowning in Mermaids: An Update

So, last year, when I released mermaid tails and a few tops, I had... a reasonable number of things. THIS year, though. This year got a little nuts, because Magical Girl Sandbox made me some fantastic much-needed meshes, and then I found some old meshes that gave me Ideas, and THEN.
Then I noticed, while I was making some new tops using "my" original textures (the ones I adjusted from the TS4 originals that definitely Gryning and... possibly Meduza? I have a PDF credited to her but I can't find where I downloaded it), when I was cutting and pasting and stretching those TS4 textures to fit onto TS2 mapping...
I had adjusted ALL of them CROOKED.
Here, just look at this:

So of course I had to re-make all the textures-- AFTER I'd made all my files, naturally-- and I tried to define and tweak the textures as I went, just to sort of fix some things I wasn't satisfied with, then I had to learn how to use a layer mask in order to get that nice fade-y alpha when replacing the textures, and then, because I'd made (let's see, counting just the bottoms from last year, then all the tops and bottoms I made using 4t2 textures after that... times 32 colors...) uh I'd made 1,856 files by then and like hell was I gonna replace the textures in ALL of those, I went and texture-referenced all the clothing ("clothing") items.


There are four tail/fin/fluke/bottom meshes available, for CU through EU, and while all the flukes are a little swishy and betta-like, Fin 1 (which has two little fins on each side) is narrower and the swishiest, while Fin 2 (which has one little fin on each side; this drives me nuts) is considerably wider and more angular.

On the folders, I differentiate the poses with T and J; on the files, J is... uh, "regular," it's not denoted? While T is noted with an "Strt."
Why does anyone need two variations for how the dang tail is bent? Could I not have asked MGSB to just edit the existing meshes?
Sure!
But.
From what I understand of how people who've been playing merpeople-themed-games play their games, that curve at the bottom is there for a reason-- if you've got specially-built lots that look like they're under the sea, then you don't want your tails clipping through the sea floor as your merfolk "swim" around.
Contrariwise, if you want your merpeople swimming in a pool, or in the actual Bon Voyage ocean, or if you're using Midgethetree's mermaid mod, then you want a more naturally-posed fluke so that it isn't curled under all the time while your merfolk are sunbathing or going full Madison in the bathtub or diving for treasure or falling off the log-rolling pit.
Who am I to say which way to play is the right way?

The fins have two waistlines, High-Waisted (the ones I released last year) and Low-Rise (technically the original alpha Meduza used on her separates but... that's as low-rise as it can be and still cover CU buttcrack). I wanted the high-waisted look because it's kind of... creeping-upward-naturally, and looks fun with short tops; the low-waisted version happened partly because I wanted more options for blending with scaled tops and partly because...
Well, the low-rise fins end before the meshed waistline, which means if you're pairing them with tops that use that noblend magic? You still get a nice scaly fade instead of a hard sharp line with a dip at the navel.

The scaled tops also have two alpha variations, Symmetrical and Asymmetrical, shamelessly burgled right from Meduza and Gryning's various resources.
They all look great on AF, and because I did not actually do away with the boob shading (on 32 different textures? I have gone mad enough thank you) some colors are better than others on flatter-chested folks. I have comparisons for all the general options (if not every color on every age or bodyshape), so you can pick and choose what you think is most interesting, or most sexy.

Symmetrical scales, on AF Androgyny, Maxis, and Bloom's Push-Up Bra (by Magpie/M, Magical Girl Sandbox, and Rudhira, respectively), giving you a look at how at least the very busy Primary Pattern looks on different chest. On the push-up variation, you're going to see some stretching, while on Androgyny... Well, Echo isn't using an Androgyny skin, here, so you can also see her own ironed-flat textural cleavage.

... Which looks particularly odd with the way the Asymmetrical scales let some underboob hang out. Honestly, if you're scaling over Androgynous merfolk, I really feel like Symmetrical is the way to go.
If you use my Sherahbim Sea-Maid gills edit of Midge's Mermaid Mod overlay, be advised that the symmetrical scale tops will cover the gills, while the asymmetrical scales are designed to expose them.
"Hat," you may ask, "Why did you go to all this trouble? Swimwear separates, all the different pieces and alphas, it's a little ridiculous."
And to that I say, hey, I did sixteen recolors for each fin mesh, not 82. But also...

Because I realized I could mix and match.
Variation in body shape, variation in colors, accessories-- also General Zoi's fins here are fantastic, they're very low-impact on the game (I even doubled the texture size... to 256), and although they're not very visible from the front, they make an impact from the back.
... Wait, mix and match, I know what I'm talking about.

For character reasons, she needs her cleavage, but-- blending the different alphas gets you some interesting variations, and frankly even all in solid colors, they stay pretty neat. And the back alphas aren't an exact match, so you still get some interest in the back.

... god I wish that were me right now.
Okay, actual important details!
These have been BINX-edited to come up towards the very beginning of your catalog; specific numbers are listed alongside other download details. Relevantly, Maxis Adult files are available in two varieties: YAEM/YAEF, if you like elder-enabled adults for Reasons, and YAM/YAF, if you prefer everybody to stay neatly in their own categories. I have not elder-enabled the Push-Up or Androgyny adult files, but you can if you want to; elder BINX sortindex numbers are always arranged to follow after the Adult BINX numbers.
It was exceedingly tedious and I kept forgetting how to count in Hexadecimal. (I know there's a utility that can do that for me, now, but it doesn't work on Vista, which is what the Simming Computer runs on, and the idea of trucking everything over to the laptop just to edit BINX numbers... Well, maybe if it works on hairs and accessories; they have enough ages-per-file to be worth it.)
I have also texture-referenced damn near everything.
Your lead files have TXTR in them rather than a bodyshape/age/gender abbreviation (YAEF, CU, TF, ANDRO); there are 32 each for high-rise tails, low-rise tails, symmetrical tops, and asymmetrical tops. The TXTR files are JUST THE TEXTURES. No other data lurks within. All of the top and bottom files are just... all the other bits. You can have 1,856 recolors in a little over the space of 128. You can keep all of everything or only all the Fin 1 Silvers or different colors for different ages/genders-- whatever floats your boat, just make sure you match names and numbers.
So let's say you have decided you ONLY want to use Fin 2 Red. For whatever reason. Your merpeople are all scarlet, whatever, this is hypothetical. But within that color and fin shape you want as much variation as you can get, so you want all the tops and rises and torso shapes; you want to take pics of your Sims swimming in the actual ocean and in swimming pools, and you have several sets built for deep-sea images so you not only need MGSB's straightened fins but the original curved ones that won't clip into the sand while your merfolk are standing around playing Red Hands, and you don't want any Elder-Enabled Adult stuff. For that scenario, you would need the following package files:

4t2 Island Living Top-Only Symmetrical Scales, Maxis Bodyshape
CU, TM, YAM/YAEM, and EM meshes are all untuckable/nude meshes already in your game, so they'll turn up with whatever morph (or hand) defaults you already use. TF, YAF/YAEF, and EF are undefaulted Maxis-shaped meshes by Magical Girl Sandbox; they have fatmorphs and I believe only the Adult Female has a pregmorph (I have forgotten), but regardless of your nude defaults, there will be no nipples poking through the scales. I cannot tell you how much that bugged me. Textures are the top half of my scales, which means Gryning gets most of the credit for providing the Island Living originals. These are in groups of 32, not 16, but go in the same order as the bottom-only fins.

4t2 Island Living Top-Only Symmetrical Scales, Magpie Androgyny Bodyshape
Meshes here are all Untuckable tops by Magpie, and I do believe they all have all morphs (at the very least I know the Adult meshes have pregmorphs, and everything has fatmorphs). Textures are the top half of my scales, which means Gryning gets most of the credit for providing the Island Living originals. These are in groups of 32, not 16, but go in the same order as the bottom-only fins. For Androgyny tops, I have not done any Elder-Enabled Adults; feel free to do that yourself if you like. I have, however, laboriously removed bump maps.

When I found this, I just couldn't resist-- another waist-up bodyshape that lets your merfolk have a more impressive set of... flotation devices! And well done on the EF mesh, for acknowledging that even old breasts react to different kinds of support (... not that these are technically bras). The meshes are by Rudhira, though I had to do some odd things to be able to recolor them. Textures are the top half of my scales, which means Gryning gets most of the credit for providing the Island Living originals. These are in groups of 32, not 16, but go in the same order as the bottom-only fins. For the Push-Up tops, I have not done any Elder-Enabled Adults; feel free to do that yourself if you like.

General Zoi Arm Fins
Mesh by General Zoi; I clipped the textures off the side fins of each tail fin and created a Photoshop action to warp them in order to get absolutely perfect texture matches. You can download these as accessories categorized just for Casual and Swim (I'd've done just Swim, but I'm not sure how), as showerproof accessories (have fun hiding that from the neighbors), or as Bon Voyage jewelry-- I have sacrificed mermaids' ability to wear a left-hand bracelet for arm fins.

General Zoi Back/Dorsal Fins
Mesh by General Zoi; I clipped the textures off the side fins of each tail fin and created a Photoshop action to warp them in order to get absolutely perfect texture matches. You can download these as accessories categorized just for Casual and Swim, as showerproof accessories, or as Bon Voyage jewelry-- I have sacrificed mermaids' ability to wear a right-pinky ring for dorsal fins.

Rose 0040 Newothers0131 Shells & Coral Hair Ornament
Mesh by Rose, textures from a lot of free-to-modify-and-share images of seashells found on Wikipedia-- including several I used in my seashell tops last year. It hit me as I was toodling around that this old accessory would work fabulously for mermaids, now that there are flukes wide enough to propel a Sim-sized half-fish and I want to play with them. You can download this... barrette? I guess? As an accessory categorized for Casual and Swim, or for Casual Formal and Swim, or as a Bon Voyage Eyebrow Ring, because that's where I put head accessories that don't interfere with hats or hoods.

Meduza's 4t2 Fishnet Top for CU
Once again on an in-game untuckable/nude mesh, Meduza's 4t2 fishnet top works great on merfolk and, once Magical Girl Sandbox provided separates for mer-kids, there was no reason not to slap these textures onto them, as well. In last year's merpeople post, you can find this top BINX-sorted for TM-EM, and converted to Androgyny as well.

Do you want to make your own mermaid stuff? I support you! I support you so hard I'm trying to make it super-convenient for you to do so. In the Resources file, you will find all the textures I collected from Gryning, some I've credited to Meduza but I can't find where she uploaded them, my own solid fin textures, including a couple of unused textures and a Fin 1 base, alphas I used for tops and bottoms, notepad files with texture-referencing numbers, and a couple of Photoshop actions-- one for making Sims 4 textures (once merged) a little easier to line up on Sims 2 mapping, and one for making exact-match side-fin recolors for General Zoi's back, arm, or head fin accessories.
You can also download a combo pack of the TXTR resources, in case you'd rather have them all together for whatever reason, and a PSD of my original, slightly crooked textures if that floats your boat.
