Default Replace Everything, Part Nine
Well, so here I am, with another tiny installment in the great Default Replace Everything project... This time, we visit those hallowed halls of education... Okay, we don't, because all I used for this was a dorm.

Ladies and gentlemen of the class of ninety-seven... Wear sunscreen.
Crayola Plastic Syndrome didn't strike too hard with the few actual education-based University props, but they still weren't what I wanted.

First, and the one that gave me difficulties at first, the Assignment. This sucker is alpha-editable and I found a beautiful libretto cover with buckles, so... call it a folio full of loose papers, maybe, instead of a notebook.

Yup, it's got Simlish writing in it, too, just like the kids' homework. (Yes, somewhere I have PSDs with all this saved as layers where you could actually find out what I wrote. No, they're not posted anywhere.)

Behold, the only place where Crayola Plastic truly struck-- the dorm privacy sign! That's a Simlish X there, because I didn't like the standard no-entry sign. (The dorm door there is not the usual Myne door, but from Parsimonious's Wandering set. They look great, but if you use a nonstandard dorm door, make sure you also have Pescado's dormbillfix-- otherwise you get a divide-by-zero error every time the mailman tries to drop off your bills.)

Told you this was a short one-- behold, the diploma! It also has a slightly edited catalog description that I forgot to get a picture of, but no Medieval diploma is going to be faux sheepskin. (I also changed the seal. There will be more stuff with similar imagery very soon, too.)
Well. So that's it. Now on to the details...
In Which Payment is Discouraged: These are default replacements. I have this... thing about people demanding money for default replacements or extracted crap. Don't do that. No, really, do NOT do that with this, it's rude.
In Which Warnings are Issued and Highlander is Quoted: You get three files, all neatly labeled, with pictures of each item included. They have been compressorized, because you should always compressorize your stuff, and most of them have larger textures than they originally did, because they just weren't pretty enough otherwise. These are default replacements, which means that There Can Be Only One. Now, I've never seen defaults for the dorm door or diploma before, but I have seen college assignment replacements-- you can't use those if you have these. (It won't break your game, but the last mod loaded wins.)
In Which Permissions are Given: Provided you aren't asking for money in exchange, please feel free to use my defaults as templates for your own defaults, because that's awesome. If you want a template as ripped from SimPE, with the mesh info included and everything, let me know and I'll fling it online for you. Mesh-replacing defaults are also awesome.
In Which Thanks are Given: Credit where it's due, I could not have done this without SimPE, so as always I must thank Quaxi. I also couldn't have done this without Photoshop, so I must as always thank Lyn. Oph3lia asked for University defaults after putting in some frustrating work altering meshes for me; these are not the NPCs she hoped for, but I hope she likes 'em anyway.
And now that that's over with...

Wanna help me feed my cats?
In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.

*does happy dance* You have just made taking pictures for my next Uni chapters so much easier and less anachronistic. THANK YOU!

(I don't hate the mascots, exactly, but I hate the look of them. I once kept that stupid cow chained up in the XXXSims sado set ceiling chain thing for days (okay, so I was also hammering maxmotives at the time, but I was just trying to get my aliens through college...). It was very satisfying.)

(Anonymous) 2010-07-11 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)Seriously, you have no idea how much time I've spent in Photoshop painstakingly removing those hellish red privacy signs from the doors caught in my screenshots. On the bright side, I've gotten to be a pro at it. On the brighter side, I don't have to be a pro at it anymore!

You can use money cheats to start your royalty off-- I think most people do-- but something about the idea of a Medieval village instead of a whole kingdom is kind of appealing.
