Above The Knee and Not Below (Top-Only Rucked Gowns)

Oh man these have been in the works for a WHILE.

Back in Ye Olden Days, Gwenke graciously filled a request of mine on Garden of Shadows-- a slice of a TSM skirt attached to the waistline of a Cynnix top, made top-only in two groups, so's I could paint chausses onto the feet area and have them covered as socks by skirts and shoes (or pants and shoes, whatever floats your boat) but so the skirt and bodice of the gown wouldn't get covered up by bottom textures.

Years and years later, when I finally got around to recoloring them, I realized one of the purposes I had for them wasn't going to work-- pantsless bottoms clipped right through the butt, and even the skirt it was designed to go over (that Oph3lia Liana mashup I've retextured twice now) clipped right through on the fat morph. Simborg graciously fixed that for me, too late to get into the credits tooltips, too.

I am dealing with a graphics card issue that keeps fuzzing up my in-game custom clothing textures, so there are a lot of Body Shop shots happening here. Bear with me, I have three more things I can try (install some updates that are not technically FOR Vista but work WITH Vista; find a proper registry cleaner, uninstall my graphics card software, clean the registry, and reinstall my graphics card software, and as a last possible resort, reformat AGAIN and install everything correctly the first time) but I want to get some more content up before I go trying anything that's going to require massive backups on my part.

Gown shown here in ACYL Robin's Egg, with the kirtle underneath in a nice ignorable Time Bomb.

What is the difference between a gown and a kirtle?

... I mean, semantics, kind of, a kirtle IS a gown, but not every gown is a kirtle? You wear your kirtle as your first outerwear layer over your shift or chemise, and most of the time that kirtle doubles as your bust support garment (maybe you're wearing tuttensacks or a supportive chemise underneath, instead, but usually it's the kirtle). Then if you want another layer over the kirtle, for warmth or fashion, that's a gown.

And that's what this is!

There are two alpha variations of this gown, too, one with socks and without socks. The gowns WITH socks are categorized for Casual, Maternity, Outerwear, and Gym (though you may have to add outerwear and gym to skirt options; I made mine before I realized I might want to do that with 'em), while the bare-legged ones are categorized for Casual, Maternity, and Gym-- no outerwear with no socks on.

Why did I do that?

Pantsless reasons! (Yes that's a very fancy hall for going barefoot with your gown hiked up, but she's going to go mop up some pee.)

Need to hike up a dress for gardening, or grape stomping, or otherwise hot work in hot weather? Pantsless bottoms are here for you! There are many bottoms that are here for you, although the key thing to look for is smooth waistlines.

As you can see, the Oph3lia-Liana mashup skirt I recolored here and also here works like a charm. If you have pantsless sexyfeet, you're gonna want to pair those with the bare-legged version. My only blockfoot sexyfeet at the moment already have chausses textured on (coming soon!), and modern pants like Rented Space's Highly Adorned Capris give kind of a 'Sarah from Labyrinth, fleeing the park in her princess costume' vibe. Pantsless Plantsim Pants and my deer pants also work!

But sometimes there is a little twitch of clipping here and there. GodLimpingBy's MtF conversion of FantasyRogue's chausses & Poulaines are... decidedly not pantsless, so the clipping is more pronounced, and sadly the 4t2 Mermaid Tails are on the thick side for Sims 2 Sims and also clip a bit. Then again, who goes for a swim in just a wool gown?

So, textures-- if you look at those Luttrell Kirtles I linked above as a skirt example, you may notice those tops and these tops look awfully similar; that's because I liked my seaming enough to just. Steal 'em. They use a Sherahbim wool texture, and the skirt has that texture repeated over it and some... very edited TSM original shading overlaid onto it. Desaturated and blurred and noise-reduced and filtered and all kinds of things.

The belt is the original leather, with hardware in either the original brass or a desaturated pewter, whichever felt like it looked better.

The chausses are my gartered ones, which you can see just a slice of on Sena up there, so here's a better shot:

And although you can't see it, for decency's sake these have FantasyRogue's braises and a patch of Magpie's linen attached to cover the underskirt area of Oph3lia's Liana mashup skirt. No flash of undifferentiated flesh!

Except on the bare-legged ones, which have NO texture on the legs, butt, or underskirt. Choose your bottoms wisely!

Have a nice turnaround.

Now, since there are 164 of these damn things and you can keep all of them, but they all use the exact same textures...

I texture referenced these.

And I did them Skell-style! A little too Skell-style, I bundled them by action set, which I feel like I shouldn't have done, but there you go. There are seven different TXTR files and you will need AT LEAST two of them for any action set you choose to use: RuckedGown- for everything, RuckedGown_Chausses if you want the versions... uh, with chausses, and RuckedGown-00-BLANK for the bare-legged gowns.

It may be a little awkward, and I wish I hadn't bundled things for you, but hey, you can have 164 recolors in the space of 82, which is nothing to sneeze at?

I also included a Resources file, in case you want to make your own colors, or convert to another bodyshape but texture-reference to my TXTR packages.

Let's get downloading. Hold on fast and fear me not.

TXTR files include only the texture sources, while age-separated files include both the with-chausses and bare-legged versions; to tell them apart, the versions with chausses say 'chausses' in the file name.

If I have messed up any links (which I may have done), please do tell me! But in case I do not fix it quickly, please also check out the Sims File Share folder, and download what I missed. (Dear sneaky person who got in there and downloaded the resources file and the CF file... hon you need the TXTR file or you're gonna have a flesh-blob mess.)

Behold the Tip Jar!

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. I don't do pay content and I can't seem to get requests done in a timely fashion, so donors get a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery (you help feed my cats, you get to see lots and lots of pictures of my cats) and my to-do list Google doc, in case there's anything on there that makes a donor go 'oooh, when are you working on that one?'
