Never Enough Thatch

Okay, so there are a lot of thatch roof textures out there, and I have downloaded most of them... and always seem to use the Maxis ones from Bon Voyage. I don't know why, there's just something I like about them, I guess. One day, I said to myself, "Hat," I said, "you might as well delete the stuff you've got and run Pooklet's actions on the Bon Voyage thatch, you know." So I looked up a tutorial on making roof textures and I totally did that.

And when this old world starts getting you down
There's room enough for two
Up on the roof

Okay, you are getting twenty-one recolors, although three of them won't do you much good if you don't have Bon Voyage. Look up at the swatch and, starting from the farthest left (the brown roof on the house, not just the start of the swatch), we go:

Pooklet's Depth Charge, Incendiary, Shrapnel, Safety Fuse, Volatile, Land Mine
Pooklet's Fission, Grenade, Brisance, and Primer; CuriousB's Caramel,
CuriousB's Custard, Dove, Earth, Green Olive, Meadow
CuriousB's Milk, Oyster, Sand, Seal, and Spring Leaf

I wanted, you see, a wide range of colors. The greens work well for new thatch, the yellows and blonds for dry thatch, the grays for weathered thatch, and as for those dark browns... I don't know if thatch ever actually gets that dark, but they seemed like good ideas for things like witches' cottages in the woods, you know? I had to have them.

These will not show up this bright in-game by default! You need a mod to get the truest colors, and you can grab Niol's Roof Shader Mod right here.

But there's a weird thing there that using Niol's mod changes the look of the Maxis roofs already in your game, because they were designed to work with Maxis's weird shaders. That's where CuriousB's Default Replacement Roofs come in; they restore the Maxis roof colors while letting you keep your new true-color custom roofs.

And that's why you also get three Bon Voyage roof files, because with my cloned roofs and CuriousB's default replacements, you can have this:

All at once! (And the center comparison there, my Neutral Thatch vs the Bon Voyage Neutral Thatch, shows just HOW dark custom roofs end up without Niol's mod. So if you're not wanting to use that one, I'd suggest only installing the lightest, brightest thatch recolors; Volatile, Primer, Caramel, Custard, Milk, Oyster, Sand, and Spring Leaf-- Grenade and Incendiary would end up quite dark.)

So... yeah, that's all my ad copy-- this is a really simple download. I do, however, have to thank: CuriousB for her color actions and her default replacements, Niol for her shader mod, Pooklet for their color actions, Lyn for making sure I had a working copy of Photoshop, Numenor for that roof-making tutorial, Quaxi for SimPE, and DJ for the Compressorizer. On this download, NO PAYSITES, because Pooklet's color actions aren't supposed to end up on paysites.

Fair warning is fair, these may require an expansion pack beyond just the basegame. I tried to do the thing where you can make them 100% basegame compatible and they no longer showed up in my all-EP/SP-OTP game, alas. There's an off chance they might require Bon Voyage, but I really don't think so. If it turns out they do, let me know. These have all been compressorized to save you some file space, so remember to clear your cache files after installing.

... Okay, mod, default replacements, thank-yous, no paysites, possible EP requirement... Yeah, I think we're good here.

Wanna help me feed my cats?

In case you feel like dropping me a buck or two, should you have a buck or two to spare. Donors get two things at the moment: a) a link to the Super Secret Cat Gallery, full of pictures of the cats you'll be feeding, updated sporadically when the cats do something photogenic and I'm fast enough on the trigger to catch it, and b) a link to the list of content I have done-but-not-screencapped, nearly done, partly done, or in the planning stages, and the option to suggest what ought to be in the next batch of things I focus on.
