I've never actually made a purple recolor of a hair (okay, once, when I'd just gotten Sims 2 and was trying to reproduce a character from an online comic), so I'd suggest re-downloading and clearing your cache files and seeing if that helps. My first thought was that there's some kind of conflict, but I can't think what would do that.
