So I have always wanted supercurly hair in The Sims. Like, always. Stereotypical Irish step-dancer extreme 80s perm 'Wow is your hair naturally curly?' Bernadette Peters type spiral curls. Alas, the people who make 20,000 poly meshes never seem to want to go to that much trouble. MYOS 14 fakes it well-- the mesh is all flat panes, but it's the right shape for ludicrous curls, and I've always wanted to poke at the alpha to see if the weird, obviously flat pieces could be trimmed off the top and sides.

And they can!

Hurry, hurry, here's your chance!

Dance, La Esmeralda, dance!

Let's get one thing perfectly clear: I cannot retexture hair. I have Photoshop 6, and I am not a good enough pirate to figure out how to get any better version. I have no warp tool, and while Liquefy seemed to have potential, I quickly realized I was going to get nowhere fast with it. All I can do is recolor hair. These textures belong to Alkaloid over at Mod the Sims. And really, the colors belong to Pooklet. All I did was push buttons. Lots and lots of buttons.

And the mesh-- which is included-- works for all ages, and comes in all of Pooklet's new naturals, plus Time Bomb in the custom bin because you never know when you're going to want to scare a Sim so bad their hair turns white, right?

However, this is an older mesh, and it does have some... some flaws.

... Yeah. Yeah, like that. But extreme head-turning is usually over pretty quickly-- I wouldn't have noticed how funky things got if I weren't trying to take a picture of it.

MOST of the time, and from most angles, this mesh ain't half bad.

"But Hat," you say, "What do we get?"

You get this:

Yep, there's a homebrew gray in there (Time Bomb multiplied over Mail Bomb in Family Two, if you're like me and desperately needed another gray to make things nice and even). Colors are binned according to Pooklet's scheme, except I hate the weird random hair color changes that seem to happen when you leave the elders with adult hair colors, so. Elders get gray. Feel free to change that if it bugs you.

Hokay, so, specific policy real quick: NO PAYSITES. Alkaloid says no and these are her textures, Pooklet says no and these are her colors. I dunno what Sim Artists' Union says, they seem to have folded. Credit goes, naturally, to Pooklet, Alkaloid, and SAU. Thanks to Theo for the Color Binning Tool, and to Quaxi for SimPE, without which fixing tooltips would be a real pain in the butt. As ever I am ludicrously grateful to Lyn for making sure I have a working copy of Photoshop.

And this right here is exclusive to Dreamwidth! (Please forgive me if Photobucket dies. I have a week left until it refreshes itself, and apparently I've been popular for not having uploaded much this month.)

I'm a curly hair girl and find that curly hair is simply not "popular" in the world of Sims. Just this morning I was downloading more hair so that all my Simmies won't look alike when Townified! I was a bit discouraged that there are so few shoulder length (or shorter) curly hair styles available for the Sims. Thanks for this and for all the extraordinary Default work you do for the Sims. My medieval hood has grown like crazy with additions from you. Just want you to know all is greatly appreciated!

It really is amazing that so many hairs have been made and that I can literally think of five hairs that are curly. Now-- I can think of six! Thanks, Hat!

Aha nice! First Ghanima retextures it, and then you recolour it! This hair is very popular lately! Thanks Hat!

Have you seen Ghanima's? They're really pretty too, I only wish they'd come in Pooklet's colours too. I think I might have to learn this pookleting hair business too this summer.

Oh yes, I know how to pooklet things, I've done a ton of object recolours that way. It's the hair bit that I'll have to learn. I've never done anything bodyshop related. Don't even know how to start a project or whatever it's called. Plus I also want to learn how to do the retexturing itself. There's so many older hairs that don't fit with my pookleted hairs anymore, but that I don't want to get rid of. And then there's a ton of meshes that would look good with curly textures, or braids textures, or dreads textures ...

And I totally agree on the new grays! It's a shame that some people don't see the need for more than one gray, and have already decided to not include them when pookleting hair.

Are you going to share your other recolours as well?

Photobucket bandwith sucks. Which is why I have two accounts, plus an imageshack account. If you spread your pictures around, you don't get in trouble with the bandwith. The only issue is remembering what you put where ...

Thanks for posting these. I've been wondering why there seems to be such a shortage of good curly hair for Sims 2. Not everyone's lucky enough to have manageable, silky locks, after all *flips indecisively wavy strand*

Hat, have you seen this? Moar curls! What are the odds of two creators releasing different retextures of the same mesh on the same day? :)

Oh, sorry to state the obvious there, then! As I'm following your DW, I am aware of your teaser. I just found it funny how two curly hairs (similar, but still really different) were created around the same time. More curly hairs are never amiss. :)

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

This hair really is under appreciated! Thank you for some awesome recolors and reds that aren't pink!

And I have to thank you for all your wonderful Medieval defaults!! I also love that you incorporated some fantasy and lore with stuff like the plant sims and aliens! I LOVE THAT!

I'd been in a playing and creating slump until you started making these wonderful creations! Please keep it up! And I'd love to see some recolors of the Jake hair! I hope you can fix it!

Thank you so much for all your creations. I love your defaults and I love this hair and can't wait to see all the other hairs you have recolored. I love it so much, two of my characters in my new medieval neighborhood legacy have this hair.
